Visiting Day

Sometime during the week between Christmas and New Years is Visiting Day. That day was yesterday. It's the day I try to cram together as many visits to LJ related friends as possible. I got sort of a late start but still mananged to visit 4 friends in one day and still make it back to the folk's house to sleep.

Let me just say for the record though: Given that it took your highway department almost 10 years to complete construction on I-40/85 between Greensboro and Burlington, I hesitate to say this, but I-440/40 could really use some work folks.

Despite elevating the speed limit to 70 mph on parts of US 70, I'd almost rather drive the entire breadth of Kansas on I-70 in the daytime on a hot summer day, in a 74 Pinto station wagon that rats had built a nest in, with no AC and bad rear shocks, hauling three dogs and a cat, one of which has a some sort of wierd stomach ailment that keeps him throwing up all the time, than drive that godsforsaken stretch between Kinston and New Bern. And Dad wonders why I always go down I-40 to get to their house.

I made it up to Greenville first and got lost in town of course because I came in from a direction I don't usually come. But got some excellent directions from Miss ryl who when I arrived was trying to accomplish the impossible task of pouring Russian tea from a large pot into a small bag without a funnel. Russian tea dust up your nose isn't as bad as you would think. I had a nice visit with her and Peter the Cat, and Zelda the Dog. I stayed as long as I could just yaking away, before having to tear ass up US-264 to get to the far side of Raleigh which I accomplished in an hour and 20 minutes, to arrive at the Texas Steakhouse on Airport Rd.

There I met with Jenn and Rob. They just got married back in September and I was honored to be present at thier nuptials. Jenn is an old friend from the early days of LJ and Rob, I'm really just beginning to get to know Rob. But the only thing I really need to know about him is that Jenn adores him and he is committed to making her happy and that is enough for me. They make a wonderfully cute couple and still do those cute couple things like touching each other in special and tender ways that really show two people care about each other.

We had a great meal and had I known they intended to pay for it, would not have ordered the most expensive cut of meat on the menu. Then we ended up talking there for a couple hours until I needed to get back down the road. I hope I can visit them again soon.

I made Smithfield by about 9:30 an paid more or less a surprise visit to beautyofgrey. I stayed there talking with her and playing with her three excited kiddoes until almost 11. I don't know why I didn't get a pic of her since I had my camera in my pocket. I also didn't get to give her the spanking she sorely deserved. Ah well, there is always a next time. I did like her kiddoes though and it's always insightful to talk to her.

I gave Mom a call to tell her I was coming back to the house and called Deb to tell her good night, then drove back down US 70 with the other late night speed demons. I was home by 1:30 am. It was a good day.

Peace,

Wander

Quiet, fool! They might decide to actually "fix" it and that's the only quick way out of this end of the state!

Yes! God forbid they start to "fix" it. My car has already been confiscated by several orange barrels once.

Notice I said I hesitate to say this. I was around for the Greensboro to Burlington debacle as well as being in the actual traffic jam behind the 27 car pile up in the early 90's that caused all the constraction zone speed limits to change.

27-car pileup? Geez, that beats the 7-car pileup plus one eighteen-wheeler that my parents got caught in (they were two and three) and caused them to buy new cars.

Sorry I couldn't get out last night - I was at work until 6 and was dead tired.

Next time, dammit.

And yes, there's a reason I live FAR AWAY from all that CRAP now.

Of my 100+ LJ friends I've actually met about 35 of them I think. Several are close friends now. I'll be hopefully visiting another one for the first time tomorrow. I call that company Pink Coyote because when I went down to register my business in NC originally, I wanted Blue Coyote but it was already taken as was grey, red, black, white and green. But Pink Coyote was avaialble. That was 14 years ago and I've never felt the need to change it. Pink business cards stand out.
