Math Problem

Someone who is a lot better tan me at math please help me:

We could print a color copy with a new color copier for 7 cents.

Our mailroom charges us 39 cents for a color copy. In terms of percentages, how much more expensive is it for us to use the services of the mail room for color copies?

I am assuming you need to buy a new copier first? And if so, is there a limit on how many copies you could make at 7 cents? Additionally, how many copies do you need? All that info is needed.

Unless all you mean is 7 cents vs 39 cents, in which case the mailroom is over 400% more expensive than the 7 cent copies.

That's what I was thinking too. Someone kept telling me i was wrong. And we can make copies indefinitely at 7 cents. Over the lifetime of the copier we'd likely make hundreds of thousands of copies it it lasted that long.

The problem is that personal copiers go through their ink cartridges VERY fast and then it costs to replace the cartridge, so that should be figured in.

Not a personal copier. This is a $15,000 copier. The laser toner cartridges last about 3,000 copies or so.

Is it a rental then?

Lease with 40,000 copies per year.

Actually, if it's just 7 cents vs 39 cents is more like 557% more expensive to go with the mailroom.

Oops sorry, you're right ... I meant between 500 and 600 but wrote 400 to 500 for some reason.

Actually, in order to know how much (if any) less expensive it would be to lease the new copier at seven cents per page rather than go through the mailroom at 39 cents, we'd need to know what the base cost of the lease is. Is there a fixed cost over and above the seven cents per page figure? Also, approximately how many pages per year do you print?

Cost per page figures almost always include the cost of toner and raw paper, so it's probably safe to ignore those costs unless the lease agreement specifically states that the customer provides their own paper and toner, in addition to the seven cents per page.
