If I'd just gotten home earlier

Ten minutes earlier getting home and I'd have witnessed one of the neighbor kids getting arrested. Damn! I hate to miss good stuff like that. The showed up last Fall and 6 people in the neighborhood called the cops on them the night they first looked at the house. Who looks at a vacant house after 10 pm in the middle of the week? We thought it was a home invasion. Seems some old guy who just got a new trophy wife, bought the house and moved all his kids out of his house and into this one. Does 6 unsupervised teenagers living in a house by themselves sound like a good idea to you? Me either. To date they have had the cops called on them 5 times. To our credit, we only called once and that was because of a loud party where some girl was screaming like she was being hurt.

Over the winter an uneasy truce developed and they have been fairly respectful ever since. Noise ends each night by 10 pm. No complaints here. I even greet them when I'm going to work or taking out the trash on Tuesday mornings.

Apparently one of them graduated from High School this weekend and they decided to celebrate with public drunkeness in the daytime in the park across the street. Someone other than us called the police (six Joliet cops live in our neighborhood, how stupid can you get?). Said teens here the sirens and bolt for their car. They didn't make it a block before cops came from both ends of the street (we live on a big circle around the park). They confiscated the car after finding open beers (again how stupid can you be?) and a few ounces of pot. And they arrested 2 of he younger teens.

I saw Skateboard Boy, the oldest, sitting on his front porch crying when I went out to Toxic Smell for dinner. I think he was trying to figure out what to tell Daddy dearest about letting two of his younger siblings get arrested. Daddy dearest lit into us last Fall for "harrassing" his innocent kids by calling the cops all the time. He's got a mouth full of crow to eat now.

Maybe we'll have new neighbors soon. One can only hope.

Hahaha. That is the best ever!

I love when dumb kids get what they deserve.

It wouldn't be half as funny if they at least tried to hide it.

I just don't understand the stupidity of some people sometimes. Seriously, if you aren't smart enough to cover your tracks, then don't do illegal things!

One of my best friends drove himself and his cousin home (after having 2 beers) and was pulled over by a cop because they were screaming out the window at him on a dark backroad. Strike number one. Then as the cop pulled him over, he had my fried get out of the car at which point a beer can fell out of the car and all over the cops pants due to my friend holding it between his legs. Strike number two. And last but not least, his cousin was actually smashed and he sat and peed his pants right in front of the cop. Strike number three. The ending was DUI classes for my friend, nothing for his cousin, and me having to wake up at 4 AM to go pick their sorry asses up from the hospital after their blood tests. Dumb, dumb people.

My Dad did that to me when I was 15. He got married and moved the wife in and threw me into the apartment with her 3 kids who were 16, 19 and 21. They hated me and made my life hell, yet my Dad always believed it was me causing the problems, because THEY said I was.

Stupid adults for thinking they can let a house full of teenagers live together. Pretty stupid. I hope that that Dad wakes up.

Parenting issues aside, as that would involve a long rant on my part...

It isn't fun being the neighbors of teenage houses, it is less fun to be the teens... Suck-y

I probably have more tolerance than any of the neighbors as I understand you have to learn how to live in a neighborhood. Still, it's no fun dealing with teen parties at 2 am in a quiet suburb.

Drunken chest thumping...no. Now drunken chest rubbing would be another story depending on who's chest was being rubbed.

How is it that you have cops from JOLIET in your neck of the woods?! That is one LONG commute!

Oh, because I live in Joliet during the week. If you are in Chicagoland and want to go rural exploring sometime, let me know and we can get together on a weekend. I sometimes stay in town for the weekend. Mostly I come down to the farm.

AH! I was gonna say that is ONE LONG HIKE from rural IL near where you'd been taking photos of the cool houses all the way back to Joliet.

How's the night sky out that way? Been looking to get away from the light pollution to do some nighttime star photos.

I'd LOVE to see some of rural Illinois sometime! I love old "small town America" and the timelessness that comes with it (much of my family livs in Columbia City, Indiana and it's like that where they live).

BTW, if you're staying in the area on the 14th of June, some explorers are coming out this way for a gathering and we're gonna head out to Gary, IN...you're welcome to come along.

How did the farm area fare with our VIOLENT weather this past week? Hopefully all is well.

There was just a lot of rain and wind really. Some lightning Friday. But Saturday was in the 80's and today was in the 90's. Dad and I were cleaning out the barn and then last night and today, I was working on my car to get it ready to drive to Dallas this Friday. Going to go ghost town exploring down there. I won't be back until the 15th so I'll be gone for the explorers. The farm is full of stars on any given night and you can listen to the coyotes howl like we did last night. An LJ friend came from California a few years ago and sat on the front porch for hours amazed at the thousands of fireflies he never sees in LA. You are more than welcome to head down to the farm with me some weekend if you like.
