Spring Maybe?

I took some flower photos in my yard at the farm yesterday just before it started snowing again. Oh my poor dead flowers. Then I drove 200 miles in some of the worst weatehr I've ever driven in...and that's saying something.

Apricot blossoms

Daffodils

Tulip

These are BEAUTIFUL. Those apricot blossoms! I love the red of the branch, too.

There are a handfull of blossoms that are the last of what was once a small orchard of apricot trees. Lightning has taken every last one.

Thanks!

Now that's just SAD. Lightning's pretty spectacular, but so destructive...

I'm going to be saving these to my computer for future background use.

You should go on a road trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway with my dad. He used to pull over at every lookout to gather rocks, take pictures of the flowers, or both. We've got a whole photo album filled with mountain flower pictures.

I had a mind numbing spring break trip from CO to NC with a chick who did that.

Fortunately my dad limited himself to the annual picking up the kids from camp trip. One twelve.hour.trip. from Arden to China Grove.

Those poor flowers never knew what hit them... :(

Incredible photos though! Those apricot blossoms are purty!

The fruit will only last until you have fully eaten them. The photos will last much longer. ;)

Ah but the photos can't capture that first taste of ripe fruit in late summer with the juice running down your chin.

A late-season snowfall recently took out the blossoms on my apricot trees, as well; but I've hope that they were pollinated and that we'll have an abundance of apricots later this summer. I did get my spring garden in this past weekend though. Or rather, most of it. There are a couple items I'm waiting another week or two to plant, as they're not so frost-resistant as are the early salad greens, the carrots, and whatnot else.

But I live in the desert where it's always hot, so I don't have to worry about late frost, right, right?

I'd laugh if it was your first season out there. I never had much luck gardening in NM but had some pretty good gardens in CO. I won't be planting my own back here until the end of April. I'm going to Oregon for a week this weekend and when I get back we'll be in the midst of mushroom season. Garden will have to wait.

There's a very attractive young girl here... Maria, her name is ... and she sells oyster mushrooms at the local market. And recently, she also sells DragonsMane. Tasty stuff!

But yeah, growing seasons here are different than what you know. Though I'm probably being conservative, because I'm at only 7000 feet now. When I had my big gardens, I was a thousand feet higher and the world was different.

Yeah, In CO too it seemed easier. Of course the soil was better in the San Luis Valley too and more moisture. I'm sure that had something to do with it. I'd go to the local market just to see Maria if she had stuff like that!
