The Monochrome Photo Contest

I'm entering 3-4 photos in another Juried contest at the Manifest gallery in Cincinnati. The Theme is "monochrome" and the entry form explains the criteria this way:

MONOCHROME is open to everyone. Professionals as well as students are encouraged to enter. The only limitation is that entries must represent original works of art or design and address the theme of 'monochrome' in some way. The 'chroma' that is 'mono' is, of course, up to each artist. The color need not be the primary content of the work of art. The limited pallet must simply be a factor in the realization of the work, whatever form it may take. Manifest is open to artists' interpretation of the exact definition of 'monochrome'.

I've chosen 52 images and put them in roughly 10 groups of 5 in a poll format. 2 groups actually have 6. Please choose your top 2 in each set that you think best meet the criteria above. I approached "monchrome" from a color as well as a thematic viewpoint. My entries have to be submitted digitally by Friday.

Alas, I am not good with rules and seemed to have followed my own. But I did at least pick 1 from each group...I think.

That's cool. I just want to end up with less choices than I started with.

that was fun. there was only one time when i had to choose a photo i didn't really like (the car interior). a lot of them i only rejected because of minor framing issues that i only notice because i'm a virgo and a photographer. :)

nice work!

Thanks. I started with like 300 choices and narrowed it down to 52. I know odd number but then, I'm a Pisces and we are odd critters. And then I kept thinking of others i have and could include and in the end just said, Aw, heck, just put up what you have and go from there.

do we get to vote again after the culling?

Yeah, this cull should give us around 20 and I'll put those up in 2 groups to get the top 4 or so. and Then I'll just choose from there. I'm glad people are choosing things other than what I've put up before. Many of them are from the recent trip. But I tried to get a US representative sampling anyway. You can let other people check it out too. It's a public post.

Tough groups - these are all pretty tough groups to choose among.

I just grouped them by name so they were completely random.

They are fun because no two are alike and it's cool to see where they will turn up.

Re: my personal favorite
That's from the town cemetery in Cimarron, NM. The photo and the place are favorites of mine too. Probably because it looks like something you'd expect to find in Old Mexico. Burials date back before NM was under US control.

Re: my personal favorite
the light is perfect, the framing is perfect, it's a good sky, there's great perspective and depth of field.

and it lets you tell a story to yourself.

It appears that others share the opinion of you two.

Re: my personal favorite
Yeah, that's from a set where I was really thinking about the art of the whole scene rather than just documenting a place.
