RIP Phil Harris

I've really loved the show Deadliest Catch on Discovery. Probably because of growing up on two coasts and knowing a lot of salty old characters just like Phil. I always love being on the docks when commercial fishing vessels come back in to port. Listening to the captains shout at their crews. Phil reminded me of all this. Rest in Peace Good Sir!

Phil's demeanor reminded me of my dad's... two fathers lost from the Deadliest Catch's crews inside of a week. :(

The dad of Jake Anderson of the Northwestern. Jake's sister died last season, too. :(

His dad's body hasn't been found, and I hate to sound pessimistic, but I don't see him being found alive. Hopefully I'm wrong.

There's a better article on the Cornelia Marie's website...but their server is having a database error...likely too many hits.

My Grandfather was a fisherman and so was his father and his father's father. They were prominent fishermen in Honshu, Nagasaki, Kyoto and Okinawa so... I can relate. They sort of had this same sort of attitude and disposition. I only met my great grandfather when I was very young but I remember him taking me and the other kids out to fish for squid really late at night and I also remember the fishing festivals we took part of. For a long time when I was young and growing up, all we ate were fish (and other seafood items), vegetables and poultry. Things that grampapa and others brought home from their fishing trips. I've never had seafood as good and as fresh as I've had it growing up with my grandparents. It was only when we moved to the United States that I ate beef and pork and other things to eat. That was interesting. Yeah they didn't have much and they were what many people consider now as "poor", but those were the best times of my life.

Rest in peace indeed Captain Harris.

(sorry for rambling on poppabear)

That's OK, I was about to question you on having fishing relatives in Utah!

I love watching Deadliest Catch. It's one of my favorite shows. I was in Great Clips this morning when I heard the news on the radio. So sad. Phil is my favorite captain....followed closely by Jonathan.
