The Great Mustang Contoversy

It used to be, I'd call Hertz to rent a car for business and they would ask if I wanted a sports car. Then they stopped that and just automatically started giving me Mazda 626's which was fine. I liked those cars. If I wanted a Mustang or something sporty, all I had to do was ask. Then lately, the Taurus has become the standard thing and that's fine too I supose but anymore I'm wondering whose ass I need to kiss to get a Mustang. Last time I went to the website to rent something for my Ohio Trip, I specifically requested a Standard 2 door and since the Peoria Airport location is small, that practically guarantees you a Mustang since they don't normally have anything other than Fords and the occasional Mazda. But when I got there to pick up the Mustang last time, I was told they didn't have any LEFT. And offered me a free upgrade to a 4 door Taurus.

I told them I'd specifically requested a 2 door sports car and if I'd wanted a Taurus, I would have requested the intermediate car class. Then I asked what had happend to my Mustang. They said they gave it to a businessman from Pittsburg. I asked if he had a reservation and they said no. So I said, "So basically you are telling me that the whims of a plane passenger with no previous reservations comes before a #1 Gold Club member who made his reservation more than a week in advance?" They hemmed and hawed but basically admitted that was the case.

I told them that was no way to run a business and in the future I would not be pacified with an inferior car even if it is in the next class up. I also reminded them I could always rent from Avis or Budget or any of the others if that was the way they treated their preferred customers. They offered to give me a voucher for a free weekend rental which I should have taken but instead I told them to make sure it didn't happen again. And if it did, I was taking my business elsewhere.

Yeah, yeah, I know I can be a dick but sometimes if you don't, people will walk all over you.

Don't think the can call you Richard
Getting what you want, expecting employees not to screw up... jumping up and down when it doesn't happen does make you the villan.

Re: Don't think the can call you Richard
You just expect a certain level of service. I mean why even ask what your car preference is when you make a reservation only to give those cars away to the first person who comes up to ask for one. Sort of like making a hotel reservation and then showing up to find out they gave your room away to somebody who pulled in off the road with no reservation.

Re: YIKES!
I am so sorry. I meant "does NOT make you the villan."

In my case...
...I know I can be and am a bitch sometimes, but if I'm not, people will walk all over me.

Yes, it is true.

Re: In my case...
Sometime you have to be a bitch anymore. The level of service in this country has gone way down in lots of areas. You'd think as much as business is down from the airlines going out of business, people in that industry would be more mindful of how they treat people.

And offered me a free upgrade to a 4 door Taurus.

How is a Taurus an upgrade from a Mustang? Is this some strange definition of the word "upgrade" that I wasn't previously aware of?

Re:
It's a car class upgrade. Mustang is in the Standard Class. Taurus being a 4 door is in the intermediate class.

As I suspected, a strange definition. Taurus better than a Mustang. Indeed!

Re:
By their definition, a Taurus is also better than a Jaguar. Go figure.
