I'm almost hesitant to post this

Since many of my friends are going through divorces and breakups and mixed feelings right now. But this morning UPS deliverd to me a little black velvet box containing the engagement ring. And it's even more beautiful than I visualized when I designed it. It's definitely not your run of the mill engagement ring and that's a good thing. Last night we went out to dinner because we'd had mentally taxing days at the office and we were basically too lazy to cook. On the way in, she asked me how much/little her ring cost. See I got it wholesale since I'm a designer/reseller. So you know the thousands of dollars most people spend on engagement rings, most of which goes to overhead and commissions and store profits, well, I don't pay any of that. I basically pay the wholesale value of what the gold and the stones are worth and a little bit more because I let another jeweler size it and set it for me because I didn't have the right tools for this one. You rapidly figure out how little rings are worth when you get divorced and go to sell your wedding band for gas money to Albuquerque to see another woman on the rebound, that your $400 wedding band is only worth it's weight in gold which comes out to $22. So Deb wanted to know what the basic wholesale cost was and I told her it was around $156 before the setting and sizing. So less than $200 anyway. She seemed pleased and I told her it was worth more than $1000 retail and she said no, she wanted to be able to tell people who flaunted their expensive engagement rings that she got a stunningly beautiful ring for only $156. And I realized with an evil laugh that's one of the many reasons I love her so much.

I've already got the story in place to get her to the gazebo on Saturday morning to propose. I told her we might have to meet with people from the town to discuss rental details on the gazebo. So the idea is planted in her head already. Saturday night I have a two room jacuzzi suite rented and a chilled bottle of champagne will be waiting for us. Breakfast in bed Sunday.

Peace,

Wander

Don't be hesitant to post things like this on my account.

I may not be happy with the state of my relationship, but reading stuff like this helps to remind me that good relationships can and do happen. So... thanks. :)

Re:
Well it wasn't just you. There seems to be a rash of it right now among friends of mine even outside of LJ. But it is good to know you are dealing with things.

Good going!
I know that I won't be as financially lucky when that day comes for me.

Re:
Well if you still associate with me by then, I'd be happy to help you out. I only charge 40% over wholesale plus shipping where most stores charge at least 400% over wholesale.

It would be a sad thing if we were not able to share in someone else's happiness even when we might be sad ourselves. :) I love these sorts of posts, and I'm glad the two of you found each other.
