June 26th is the date this year for the 9th Annual Wander's Farm Pre- 4th of July Fish Fry and Fireworks Extravaganza. This will be held consequently at Wander's Farm near beautiful Rushville, IL.

All my LJ Friends are Welcome..

Featured Events:

The fish fry with at least 3 kinds of fresh caught freshwater fish, french fries and all the traditional midwestern fixin's like potato salad and baked beans.

Skeet Shooting - what redneck gathering would be complete without skeet shooting?

A Professional Fireworks Show

Water Balloon Slingshot wars

Potato Cannon shooting

Test flights of a new 8 foot tall kite if I can get it built by then.

Horse Shoes if you want them

Walks in my woods

Fun and fellowship of meeting new people

Sitting around a campfire at night

Alcoholic beverages if that is your thing.

As in past years, a few rules. Yeah there always has to be rules.

1) If you drink, don't plan on driving home, especially if you live out of town. I've got more than enough room to crash in my 4 bedroom house. I'll go so far as taking your keys if you push me on this.

2) If you are under 18 and want to drink, I need voice confirmation from your parents saying you are allowed to drink. If you are under 21 and not living with a parent or guardian, I guess you can make your own decisions anyway, so I won't force the matter.

3) Absolutely no drugs. While I might be tempted once every decade to smoke a little pot or take a little peyote, it's not worth it to me to take a chance with the local police. They leave me alone right now. I'd like to keep it that way.

4) No blatantly illegal activity. For the same reasons as # 3. We do things at the party that are marginally illegal anyway but since I'm so far out in the sticks, no one really cares, however, I don't wish to push it. I just received an explosives handling permit from the Department of Justice which means I had to pass a federal background check.

5) Don't harass my neighbors (who live 1/2 mile from me) or the townies or any other locals. I have to live here after you are gone. For the most part, if you treat people around here with respect, they will do the same for you.

6) My farm is a working farm. It's not an amusement. So respect me and respect the land and don't try to tear things up. Remember, there is lots of room to bury bodies.

7) Bring Your Own Beverages. There are likely to be a couple coolers of beer and sodas there and we can mix drinks inside the house. After the fireworks, when we are all sitting around the campfire, I'll break out some special bottles of wine and pass them around and this is the only time you will see me drink all day.

All that being said, pretty much everyone is welcome. Just let me know ahead of time who is coming and how many people you will have with you and what accomodations you will need. I have 4 bedrooms as I said. I'll give up my bed for a couple if needed. My bedroom and one other bedroom have Queen sized beds. One has a full sized bed and the last has a twin bed. Plus I have a couch and a recliner downstairs and lots of floor space. People can put up tents in the barnyard if they like and there are a couple of cheap hotels and a guest house in town, just 3 miles away.

So let me know.

Well you can come on out if you want. Who knows, we may find you a good ole midwestern boy who can stalk you as well. And we've only known each other for 2 years so the jars can't be so many years old. I can send you some more if you like. My mulberries are getting ripe so I should be making jelly again soon.

How long would it take to drive from eastern NC to your place? I must know so I know what to request on the time-off form.

It's around 110 miles so time may vary. I could do it in a very tiring day. Most intelligent people do it in a day and a half. Mom and Dad try to make it up to Mt. Sterling, KY the first day and then drive here the next day and usually make it before 6 pm. When I drive that way, I make it to Brent's house in Lexington in one day and then drive to the folks house the next day. All depends on your stamina I guess. From the eastern part of the state, it's almost exactly the same distance if you go up to Winston Salem and head up US 52 to I-77/81 to I-64. As it is to take I-40 all the way to Knoxville, TN and get on I-75 to I-64.

Just a matter of preference. The I-40 route has more mountains and long curves. The I-77/81 route has more up and down hills with big trucks and it also cost you $3.75 in tolls on the WV turnpike.
