The Crazy stuff I've been up to

I've spent the last several weekends photographing ghost towns and supposedly haunted houses. Many of those photos can be found in rural_ruin. Anyway, last weekend, I photographed the towns of Camden and Ray, IL and the village of Basco, IL. My Aunt Mary used to run a candy store in Basco. As kids we were all give one dollar each week and allowed to buy as much penny candy as we could. Which is probably why we all have dental problems but I digress. I was accosted in Basco by a woman wanting to know who I was and why I was taking photos through the windows of the old stores. After I allayed her suspicions, i found out she was actually a shirt tail relative of mine and we talked for a bit. She gave me the keys to get into the old hotel in town and I found some interesting treasures which I will post on later.

My Saturday afternoon was spent photographing the Peoria State Hospital. This is a sprawling group of ancient buildings that saw to the care of over 70,000 mentally and physically disabled persons from 1902 to 1973. It's a very spooky place and supposedly one of the most haunted places in the state.

Tomorrow afternoon I will be returning to hopefully get some interior shots as well as some shots of the old cemeteries. I'll post the results later this week.

Now that is a worthwhile community. I have to go down the street and photograph the old general store at the corner so I can post it on there.

Yeah it's a neat place. It's got a nice vibe to it. People tend to find all sorts of ruins that you wouldn't think about and I think it gives everyone new ideas.

So, did you run into any ghosts?

That is something I would like to do....

Ghost Chasers, Inc.!! LOL

Well at the asylum, even not going inside, you feel like someone is watching you through the windows all the time. And it's completely silent even with a breeze blowing which just makes it that much more bizarre. A friend and I are going back after work today. Don't know if we will actually go inside or not as we'd hate to get picked up for trespassing but the curiosity is there.

That is the hardest thing....not being able to go in. Knowing me, I would probably find a way to go in!! LOL

Oh we could easily get in. There is a windown in the back where someone has pulled off the protective metal sheeting they used to barricade the place. Problem is it's in plain sight too.
