Not my normal cup of meat but still...

Upon request from my Catholic mother, Deb and I made a Rosary for my aunt for Christmas. I've not even seen one let alone used one in about 20 years so considering that, I think it turned out pretty well. By the way, it's sterling silver and poppy jasper in case you wondered.

Almost makes one want to be Catholic again...almost.

nice work, I hope to get back into jewelrymaking soon myself- moneys too tight right now for me to buy beads though.

Rosary's are awfully long aren't they? Why is that, do you know???

It is because of the number of prayers in the rosary cycle.

That's beautiful. For a long time I had several; I like to buy them secondhand and "feel" them, they are amazing conduits since they are used for prayer. I still have one I bought that had belonged to a nun. It is functional, rather than pretty, but it works great as a pendulum.

This was something I was going to bring up as a discussion. At what point does a rosary become a sacred object? It's not been used yet so is it basically a long necklace right now? I'd think it has a lot to do with the intent of the maker. I'd think it would also be a great way to make a variety of stones more portable for healing work.

Cool, I think I'll add you to my friends list if you don't mind. Yeah, I've not been a Christian much less a Catholic in 20 years so it doesn't carry maybe the significance to me it would to someone else. But I can still appreciate the beauty and meaning of a sacred object.

That's some awesome work wander. Rosaries aren't my thing, but I think the jasper was a good choice - loyal and protective as well as beautiful :-)

I stop by occasionally, attracted by your posts in rural_ruin.

Yeah so did I. I'm even confirmed so I think they think they have me for life. Oh well, ket them think that if they want.

Pretty! Very pretty!
I'm not Catholic, but I have always thought Rosaries were pretty.

I think we are going to make a few now and keep them in stock just because this one came out so well.

Very nicely well done. I have an extremely simple one made with unstained wood beads. Even though I'm not Catholic, I had it blessed in Rome.

I think the sacred is sacred no matter what religion it stems from. I think it's basicaly the same intent no matter the belief so as long as it is viewed as sacred, it doesn't matter.
