News update

I can finally do a news update like twistedcat does all the time.

Looks like they finally caught our serial killer

We had a School Shooting incident on Wednesday which caused the school to be completely locked down. And I mean, no cell phones, no internet, no phone calls and no one goes home. Had parents in a bit of an uproar and the superintendant is in a bit of hot water over having metal detectors but not using them. Uh yeah.

Can we say HOMOPHOBIA? I think we can.Poking fun at the homophobes.

Oh and as promised, some hi res of the photos I posted yesterday. One didn't upload right so I'll have to redo it but I threw in an extra one so you can see the whole barn. Have at it.

Come to Peoria! Lovely people, excellent schools, and friendly people!

I actually pretty much despise Peoria. Notice you don't hear me talking about it much. I just work here.

That is why I'm glad I live closer to Bell Arthur than Greenville. I just work in Greenville. I live in Bell Arthur.

Our house in Peoria is actually not my legal address. All of my bills go to the farm which is where I'm registered to vote and so forth.

And no, I don't know why I typed "people" twice in that. It was before the Friday Coffee, that's all I can say.

Don't get used to it. We don't make much news around here. But our rivers are all about to flood like in 93 and 95 so we might have a little more soon.

Why do kids need cell phones in school anyway? Why do they need them at all?
Dick Gay huh? Hm...
Lovely photos...

Thanks Dear. Kids, hell, why do most people need cell phones? I seem to think I got along just fine befor cell phones came along. Even now that I have one, it's in my truck turned off. I only use it if I'm calling in to work to tell them I'm going to be late.

Exactly...I don't actually have one, myself...

In a society where the stay-at-home mom practically no longer exists... In a society where a child cannot be guaranteed the presence of a guardian at home... In a society where schools cannot be trusted to provide guidance (let alone discipline or basic safety)... I find it downright offensive to assume that cellphones may not be there to help provide for what our society no longer considers important.

If I had children, they would if at all possible be homeschooled. Were that not possible, they would most certainly be provided with a cellphone, to get hold of me at any time for any reason. The leftist values of American society at large - and certainly those extreme leftist values of the public schools - are most emphatically not mine, and I would retain any means of connection with my children that proved possible. Cellphones are certainly useful in this regard.

As for cellphones in general... Cellphone numbers do not (legally) receive the blitzkrieg of telemarketer calls that are so common for "standard" phone consumers. I long ago discontinued my landline in favour of cell-only service, and I do not regret it. And it does indeed add considerable flexibility for me, when I am not at home.

Once again, we have different opinions on the matter. I see no need for the devices other than emergency situations. Those might include a child calling a parent for help or advice but I don't think a kid needs to have a cellphone so his/her girlfriend/boyfriend can get hold of them in the middle of math class which is what I think most people who object to school age kids having cell phones are objecting to. I don't have a lot of trouble with telemarketers as I'm rarely at home during the hours that telemarketers call plus being on the National Do Not Call list helps that a lot too. And when I'm away from home, I travel generally with the express hope that people can't reach me so I usually have my cell phone turned off. I'm thankful my parents instilled in me the desire and knowledge to be self-sufficient so when I was in public school, I took care of most problems myself. They were there if I needed them. But I do realize that not every kid is self sufficient and may need a lifeline that a cell phone provides. It's just sad that many parents give to their kids the priveledge of havine a cell phone without teaching the responsibility that goes along with it.

I'm sure we have our fair share around here. They just don't usually go public like these folks felt the need to.
