Weekend Update

After the week long funeral events, it was nice just to have a weekend to unwind. Not being Christian or Pagan, Easter doesn't mean too much more than a time to get together with family and eat good food. Usually, I go to an annual dinner hosted by my grandmother's neices and nephews. In 11 years, I think I've gone 9 times. And while they are nice enough people, I didn't grow up with them and so I don't have a lot to talk about. Plus some of them plain don't like me because my immediate family got the lion's share of my grandma's estate and they didn't. I'll take this time to say that the ones who don't like me are probably the same ones who only went to visit her thinking they were going to get something when she passed on...so it's no big loss. But suffice to say, I was looking for a reason not to go Sunday. So Saturday, Deb's Stepmom calls and invites us to Easter Dinner. I was fast to say "LETS DO THAT!" So Saturday night, I grilled us a couple of rib eyes and made garlic mashed potatoes and we watched the recorded episodes of Carnivale, Deadwood and Survivor Deb had missed durring the week while she took care of family business for the funeral. Went to bed a little early and read our respective books which I never have time to do. We slept in a little on Sunday and then drove up to Candy's for dinner. It was a nie relaxing day. I talked with Deb's dad about various things and we watched the Carolina vs Wisconsin game. Of course I was the only one in the room cheering for Carolina. Go Heels! Afterward, we drove back through Macomb so I could get a photo of an old truck with a tree growing out of it. On the way back, we played Name That Roadkill. Deb won this time. And I found an ancient hay baler to photograph. Got back to the farm, relaxed for a bit, then packed up and headed back to the city. Caught the end of the season finale for Carnivale because I had screwed up and not set the DVD recorder correctly. So as of tomorrow, I'll have all of season 2 on DVD if anyone wants it. Working this week but hopefully not working hard. I shopuld get my bike back from the bike shop today and good thing because we are supposed to have Spring temps this week. Next weekend, I'll plant the new garden.

Woah you have Carnivale season two on DVD? EGADS! That's awesome. Our cable company doesn't give us that channel, so we have missed it since we moved here. Was it as good as last year?

I think this season has been tied together much better but there has been a lot of criticism that the last 4 or 5 episodes have seemed like the writers were trying to cram too much into them. People are worried there will not be a third season and HBO is carefully skirting the issue so who knows if last night was the season finale or the show finale. But I do have to say, the special effects have been awesome this season.

Brother, it is so good to see you getting a chance to unwind and just be. Many blessings for you and Deb, you both deserve them. *Hugs*

Yes, this time of year is pretty much a favorite because of the newness but also having some time to just relax.
