BroaD BASED UPDATE

I hate it when I hit the Caps lock instead of the shift key but I'm too lazy to start over today.

OK, I've been back from NC for two weeks and I'm still editing all the photos but I promise a photo recap of my trip tomorrow.

Remember Debs vacuum cleaner stalker? His boss called me at work last week. Seems I got him fired. Oh well, no remorse from my end. You shouldn't fuck with my lady.

I've got four good sized stevia plants growing in the garden now. So everyone I've promised stevia to will have it this year. I'll also be making the jams and jellies for twistedcat with it.

Last night I made perhaps the hottest batch of Tropical Terror I've ever made. In addition to the base peppers which were numerous and hot, I used 80 habaneros to reap 13 pints of salsa. Two jars just left her via Fed Ex for godorion down in Texas. Anyone else need some?

I also made a fresh batch of Wander's Prairie Fire Special Cayenne Sauce just for duskfrog. It's a new recipe especially for folks who don't want any preservatives in their hot sauce. And if you use enough vinegar, you really don't need Xanthum Gum.

I lost my gallery space out in NM. The lady who had the gallery decided to rent it out for the summer and moved her painting studio to her own home. It was a good run last summer. I made over $1500. And when you are selling things from $8.50 to $35 that's saying a lot. A good LJ friend is helping me look at options for selling in other places.

In late July, I'm heading to Cimarron, NM for a week long reunion of the Philmont Staff Association. In the latter part of the week, the PSA is hosting an arts and crafts show which I'll be showing/selling at. Hopefully I'll make enough to defray the cost of the trip. On the drive down, I'm taking a detour and heading down to Austin, TX to meet aronal and godorion and whomever else might be about.

The 10th Annual Wander's Farm Pre 4th of July Party and Firework's extravaganza will be held at my farm near Rushville, IL on June 25th. Mark your calendars accordingly. A slight glitch this year is that my folks will be visiting so I'll have a little less room to put people up inside but there is tent/camper space out in the barnyard and I may even have my teepee set up by then so someone could stay in there. I'll post a formal announcement soon.

Deb and I are heading down to Mansfield, MO for Memorial Day weekend. It's the place where Laura Ingalls Wilder settled after leaving Minnesota. It's got a museum and home and all that and Deb is into that stuff so I promised her back in the winter we could go.

I've been fishing each weekend with Rob and Robbie trying to catch enough Bass/Bluegill/Crappie/Catfish for the fish fry at the party. Sunday we caught over 6 dozen fish so we are well on our way.

I planted 22 tomato plants last weekend. I've got 75 pepper plants and all the rest of the stuff still to plant. The plum tree has plums on it and the mulberries are starting to show as well. I've got 4 rows of sweet corn going too. Should be a good year for canning and eating.

OK, that's it for the updates. Back to the grindstone.

Beats me. I guess you'd dry it to use for later as well. So I might as well I guess. It will be a week or two before I can really harvest the leaves so we have time to think about it. I'll do some reading on it and see how they extract it for use.

I'm reading that you can make a water based extract by boiling the leaves. I may try that and see how it tastes. Do you do better with an alcohol based extract or water based?

They say you can just make a tea from the leaves as well.

Don't want to poison you after all. That's all I need is a poisoned psychic animator on my conscience. Think of the bad karma!

It's this herb thats 200 times sweeter than sugar and has no calories so very good for diabetics and other folks who just don't need the calories...like me.

I know how it is. I'll be getting a promotion soon and except for the fact I snuck this vacation in July under the door, I doubt I'll be seeing much free time either. Sure, I'll send some TT out to you this week sometime. Make sure I have your current address.

Deb and I both miss you.

$3.50 per jar. You can do the paypal thing at dierker@frontiernet.net or send me a check at Mark Dierker, 1211 East Elmhurst Ave., Peoria, IL 61614. The $350 basically just pays for the shipping. If I didn't have to pay it, you'd get it for free.

Hm. As soon as I get $3.50 in my bank account (*frowns* currently I only have like... a dollar.), it's yours. You could set aside a jar for me, until I pay, or I could just get in on the next batch.

I'll send it and you can owe me. No telling when I'll make it again. I'm not too worried about you paying. I can always come find you.

From Mansfield, it's only about another 2 1/2 hours to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Pretty neat old resort town tucked away in the Ozark mountains. Of course, (I'm sure you're already aware) there's a lot of old US Route 66 stuff between St Louis and Springfield, MO. You'll likely be driving that way...

I'm going down via Lousiana, MO to Mexico, Mo to Jefferson city and then down. Yeah, Deb is going for the Laura Ingalls Wilder stuff. I'm just the driver so I'll likely get out and do some exploring. Ther is also a nice crystal mine in Eureka Springs.

I am unfamiliar with the crystal mine. ...I liked Eureka Springs in the early spring, just when daffodils push up through the remains of winter's last snowfall. The crisp mornings with mist and woodsmoke covering and revealing the hills were just fabulous.

The Louisiana -to- Joplin drive is pretty cool, though Mexico, MO always strikes me as being somehow rather surreal. Some friends of mine own a small, organic farm around Auxvasse, MO, which is near Mexico. (One of their relatives is a professor emeritus at the University of Missouri, and perhaps the most knowledgeable person I know when it comes to the subject of Little Dixie style fiddling.)

Actually, you'll be driving right through the Kingdom of Callaway, now Callaway County, MO. Pretty cool Civil War history there. The Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society in Fulton, MO is worth a stop, as is Westminster College and the Churchill Memorial (also in Fulton). The Memorial is actually an English cathedral redesigned by Christoper Wren, which was slated for demolition. T'was saved when they carted it across the Atlantic and rebuilt it as the Memorial.

Ngeh. I'm babbling now...

It's OK, I've been to the memorial on my way back from a press OK in Jefferson City. It is cool. MO is vastly underrated in it's draw as a weekend vacation getaway. Too much emphahsis on Branson and the Ozarks when there is so much more to do and see.

Thanks, I don't mind the babble.
