June 25th is the date this year for the 10th Annual Wander's Farm Pre- 4th of July Fish Fry and Fireworks Extravaganza. This will be held consequently at Wander's Farm near beautiful Rushville, IL.

All my LJ Friends are Welcome..

Featured Events:

The fish fry with at least 3 kinds of fresh caught freshwater fish, french fries and all the traditional midwestern fixin's like potato salad and baked beans. Plus Atlantic Coast shrimp, maybe some venison and possibly a pork loin.

Skeet Shooting - what redneck gathering would be complete without skeet shooting?

A Professional Fireworks Show

Horse Shoes if you want them

Walks in my woods

Fun and fellowship of meeting new people

Sitting around a campfire at night

Alcoholic beverages if that is your thing.

As in past years, a few rules. Yeah there always has to be rules.

1) If you drink, don't plan on driving home, especially if you live out of town. I've got more than enough room to crash in my 4 bedroom house. I'll go so far as taking your keys if you push me on this.

2) If you are under 18 and want to drink, I need voice confirmation from your parents saying you are allowed to drink. If you are under 21 and not living with a parent or guardian, I guess you can make your own decisions anyway, so I won't force the matter.

3) Absolutely no drugs. While I might be tempted once every decade to smoke a little pot or take a little peyote, it's not worth it to me to take a chance with the local police. They leave me alone right now. I'd like to keep it that way.

4) No blatantly illegal activity. For the same reasons as # 3. We do things at the party that are marginally illegal anyway but since I'm so far out in the sticks, no one really cares, however, I don't wish to push it. I just received an explosives handling permit from the Department of Justice which means I had to pass a federal background check and an arrest at this point would do me no good at all.

5) Don't harass my neighbors (who live 1/2 mile from me) or the townies or any other locals. I have to live here after you are gone. For the most part, if you treat people around here with respect, they will do the same for you.

6) My farm is a working farm. It's not an amusement. So respect me and respect the land and don't try to tear things up. Remember, there is lots of room to bury bodies.

7) Bring Your Own Beverages. There are likely to be a couple coolers of beer and sodas there and we can mix drinks inside the house. After the fireworks, when we are all sitting around the campfire, I'll break out some special bottles of wine and pass them around and this is the only time you will see me drink all day.

All that being said, pretty much everyone is welcome. Just let me know ahead of time who is coming and how many people you will have with you and what accomodations you will need. I have 4 bedrooms as I said. I'll give up my bed for a couple if needed. My bedroom and one other bedroom have Queen sized beds. One has a full sized bed and the last has a twin bed. Plus I have a couch and a recliner downstairs and lots of floor space. People can put up tents in the barnyard if they like and there are a couple of cheap hotels and a guest house in town, just 3 miles away.

My folks are currently visiting and will be here throughout the weekend of the party. They will be vacating the house Saturday and staying at my aunts house so Saturday night I'll have room for people.

So let me know.

what does Payote feel like?
Jun. 10th, 2005 10:44 pm (UTC)
it's bumpy ;-)

Yeah...I've seen people get really scared with it and I've seen some very mellow folks. I don't think there is a set experience for every person who tries it. Of course only doing it every decade or so doesn't give me a good feeling for what it's like with regular use. Nor do I really think I need to try.

I think it's probably differnt for each person and different depending on the setting and intentions you start out with. For me at first it's a lot of very vivid colors and then a very intense vision. Last time I did peyote, I no longer saw my surroundings and saw only a vision that had replaced my surroundings. Very tranquil floating feeling that lasts quite awhile. It is an emetic though so most people throw up before they get to the good stuff.

You are always welcome. I'll be going to Texas in July but I don't think I'll be near enough for a visit.

I'm going to be broke and sick! I'll mail you the extremely early wedding present, though.

I hear if you bury a body at each corner of a field, the deer stay away.

Hehheheheh. I have a non-lethal method for keeping them away if I want. We put off the wedding indefinitely but mail if you want.

Reading your rules, all I can think of is these lyrics:

Well you can come as you are
There ain’t no dress code
Just some rural route rules that you need to know
Don’t mess with the bull
He can get real mean
Don’t forget to shut the gate
Stay out of the beans
If it starts to rainin’ will just head to the barn
We’re country boys and girls gettin’ down on the farm

Won't make it this year, but SOMEDAY!

Yeah pretty much. Good ole redneck gathering. Food and firearms.

Jun. 10th, 2005 11:49 pm (UTC)
I will be right over. Oh no, wait, I won't. Drats.
Jun. 13th, 2005 03:42 pm (UTC)
Anytime you get out this way you are welcome. Can't promise a party everytime but...

it's too close to my trip to the united kingdom to justify making the trip down this year, but i really do hope to make it one of these years.

I'd imagine we will keep having them until someone really gets hurt or we just get tired of them so whenever you feel like it.

I've always wanted to try skeet shooting. ;)

It is fun blowing stuff up without having to kill anything.

Jun. 13th, 2005 07:55 pm (UTC)
i'll add you to the list of those I'm having a blast for.

Jun. 13th, 2005 07:58 pm (UTC)
Woo hoo company! I've always been the quiet and shy type, so that sounds good. :-)
Jun. 15th, 2005 08:50 pm (UTC)
I really wanted to make it.
But, I don't think I could make it a whole day without blatant illegal activity, drugs, driving while intoxicated or at least harassing the neighbors.

Really I have a wine festival to do.
Perhaps we will be drinking a nice wine at the same time that day.
(I would say a nice "glass" of wine, but I know rednecks don't usually bother with glasses)
Jun. 16th, 2005 03:29 pm (UTC)
No we generally just pass the bottle. It is a nice wine though. It has a cork and everything!
