Harvest

Finally harvested and dried the last of the stevia I grew this year and finished grinding in my mortar. I've probably got a couple ounces of green stevia powder now which tastes very good by the way. I'm going to use a tincture recipe for white stevia and hope it comes out close. anyway, if I promised you some, I'll be getting it out soon. I found a company that sells not only the little amber dropper bottles but also all my other containers for my sauces. So from now on, everything will look a little more professional at least. I'll be getting adhesive labels printed for all my food products as well.

Hm, interesting. I've been hearing a bit about it lately as an alternative sweetner. Expensive shit though.

Not too bad if you get the whole leaf powder. The white stuff is actually a concetrated extract and is more expensive.

I tried stevia once - a sample in a little packet - and it had a really weird bitter aftertaste. Does whole leaf powder have that? I heard once that it's just the little individual packets that taste like that, but now I'm afraid to buy a big package of it.

Mine tastes pretty good. We'll see what it tastes like when I make the tincture. Though I'm just using distilled water as a base so it can't taste much different.

Thought you'd want to know that Seton Castle - built just outside Santa Fe by Ernest Thompson Seton - was destroyed by fire earlier this week. It was undergoing renovations at the time, so Seton's records, collections, etc were all offsite. But it's still a rather tremendous loss. Don't know if it'll have made the national "news," but more information can be found at http://www.freenewmexican.com/news/35170.html (requires quick registration).

Wow, thanks. There is also the Seton Museum up at Philmont. They have quite a few of his sketches and writings as well. I'll pass this on.
