Last One

Probably my last post before the end of the year as I don't like to use computers when I'm on vacation. Christmas was good.Spending time with family is what it is all about with me.Got some nice gifts. Everyone seems to be leaning toward thoughtful gifts this year. The whole family is getting along. Mom and I even had a fairly meaningful and non-confrontational talk about her view of Heaven vs. my view of the Afterlife. I'm helping Dad fix computers and instal various software in his computers. Tomorrow we are all taking the Cedar Island ferry over to Okracoke and then on to Cape Hatteras for a family picture. Wednesday Joe flies back to Seattle and I can hopefully go visit friends in Greenville, Fuquay and Raleigh/Cary. Need some contact info for a certain Raleigh area female who explored an abandoned golf course with me last year.

I was sidelined with a migraine the better part of today but still managed to make Mexican Bread Pudding to go along with Mom's coq a vin for dinner tonight. I know it's mixing nationalities but I don't care. It was all delicious. Oh yeah, My Dad is apparently the neighborhood dog whisperer or the Pied Piper of Morehead City, I haven't decided which. We took a 4 mile walk this morning and every dog in the vicinity came out to greet him. Of course he did have mounds of dog biscuits in his pockets. Lots of friendly dogs but unfortunately one that's not so friendly bit me. I was pretty startled or I'd have smacked him upside his head. He didn't seem at all remorseful. It's a friend's dog so we told her about it rather than reporting the bite. I was wearing long sleeves so it dodn't break the skin but I'll have a bruise for awhile.

Off to bed now so I can get up early and head to the banks.

Peace and love and big bearhugs to all my friends and I hope you all have a wonderous New Year.

As an ultranationalist foodie, I'm quite intrigued to know just how "Mexican" bread pudding might differ from the usual sort...?

brown sugar, water and a cinnamon stick for the syrup, 2 loaves of toasted crusty bread, (I used French Bread), Pecans, Raisins and these little Mexican Anise candies that I can't quite remember the names of now. Oh and sharp cheddar cheese which sounds wierd but the cheese cuts the sweetness of everything else. I can give you the exact recipe when I get back if you want. It's called Capirotoda. They sell the toasted bread in a lot of ethnic stores as well as the hardened brown sugar cones.
