After a bad weekend for both Deb and I,( bad for different reasons as we didn't spend it together), we find today we need to go put our oldest cat Peeker to sleep. I've known him the ten years I've been with Deb and she had him 5 years before that so it's not as if he's a youngster but still you hate to see them go. So if you are so inclined, could you send energy/light a candle/pray for his smooth passing. We'll be having him put down about 5:30 central time and then taking him down to farm for burial next to his sister Bugsy who passed on a few years back.

In a lot of ways, Peeker was harder to win over than any of Deb's human family. It's just in the past few years we've become friends. I'll be sorry to see him go.

This morning I fed him some milk out of my cereal bowl. We've been spoling him since we knew his time was limited.

The yellow one on the floor is Peeker. The other one standing up with the stripey pants on is Jasper, the middle cat.

I'll be gone half a day tomnorrow in case anyone is trying to get hold of me.

I'm sorry. I'll be thinking of him, and you. Give him some ice cream if you're so inclined, cats like ice cream.

Your Jasper looks like my Jaspurr, a cat I grew up with.

I'm so sorry to hear it. Safe journey to him. Meows and purrs from Harley.

Thanks very much. He went as peacefully as possible which for Peeker means he growled a lot and bit the vet once more. He stayed in character to the end. But we took him down to the farm and buried him last night right next to his sister Bugsy who we lost a few years ago.W

*hugs* Peeker looks a lot like Babe my female kitty.
I love my cats like children so I know how difficult it can be to do what is ultimately best for the cat's quality of life.
I'll send you and Peeker some Reiki.

We're sorry to hear about your fur friend. I hope he is easy and peaceful now.

Fifteen! I hope our cats can live as long.

His sister Bugsy lived to 20. We buried him right next to her. Had he not got the cancer, I'm sure he would have outlived her. He was always very active even at that age. In the last few days he was acting like a kitten again. Making big jumps from couch to table and things like that. He was a character indeed.

oh no...i'm so sorry he has to go. :-( was he in pain, or not eating or something?

About 6 months ago he had to get a couple teeth extrtacted because they had abscessed on him. The vet couldn't figure out the cause at the time. A few weeks later he started really losing weight. He had been about 20 pounds and dropped to 15 in a week or so. So blood tests were done and they found he had cancer in his jaw and his lower jaw had actually separated in the front. So they wired the lower jaw and we had to feed him very soft food. Then the cancer spread to his other bones and we had him eating well again but he was still losing weight. Finally a few weeks ago a couple biopsies revealed the cancer had spread to his organs and blood stream so we knew it was just a matter of time. I told Deb there would come a day when Peeker told her enough was enough. That day was yesterday. When we took him in he was down to 9 pounds even though he'd been eating regular meals. It was just time to let him go.

oh no...that's so sad. I had a cat when i was in high school that had a tumor in her ear...everytime she shook her head, this bloody fluid was flung everywhere...but we caught it in time and she was ok...until my mom got remarried and decided to have my 14 year old cat's front claws removed so she wouldn't attack my stepdad's mutt. she died from the shock about 2 weeks later. I could have punched my mom in the face for doing that to her.

Yeah not all cats tolerate that too well. All ours are indoor cats and we've had it done when they were still kittens with no problems but any older cats we've adopted, we just leave them alone.
