Today's Pet Peeve

and really this goes back a couple years because people are always asking me to do it.

There is no such verb as Photoshop. Stop asking me to Photoshop bigger boobs in or a beer gut out. I can use Photoshop to edit something. That one bugs me even more than people referring to copying as Xeroxing.

That is all.

Then what verb do you suggest?

Depends on the task and the tool used to do it. For both the above examples I'd use a cloning tool so clone would be OK. But asking me to edit a photo in general is preferred. You should see the tons of requests I get everyday that say, Photoshop her shirt to cover her crotch or Photoshop out the earrings.

This would be akin to someone saying Powerpoint me a set of slides or Word me that report.

Scrathing your pet behind the ears, trying to avoid the horns . . .
I love this from a man who changes a verb of great scope and motion into a noun the size of a name.

When I was a kid I used to climb over two big fences so that I could feed willow leaves to a full grow buffalo.

Unfortunately for you, social trends dictate the norm, and the trend is that "Photoshop" is now a verb. Nowadays, us kids just shorten it to "Shop".

"That photo's definitely been 'shopped."

Even if it's never been edited by Photoshop, the image has been "'shopped".

So be thankful your bosses aren't yet asking: "Could you 'Shop some bigger boobs on her?"
Cause it's likely to happen. Just don't lose your hair over it. :)

No, I'll just refuse to do it. I'll be the one lone holdout. In fact I'll put it in my goals for this year to convert the department back to the correct way of saying it. I'll come up with forms everyone has to fill out in triplicate. My views will be the only ones that matter! Bwhahahahahahahaha!

Seriously, I do all the difficult editing for the department and no one else knows as much as I do about Photoshop (that's called job security) so if I made a big stink about it, people would probably conform to my views and then say things about me behind my back but I'm not that much of an asshole and I kinda like getting raises every year so I'll just use my journal to vent.

Oh, good lord . . . so THAT's what a "shopped photo" indicates. I have been wondering, expecially since I am so very un-hip that even when I was at the age where hipness mattered, it didn't even apply to me.

I do love understanding the language. Vocabulary builder for the day: "shopped"
