Fun with MySpace

Why do I even have a MySpace account? Because one of my friends who refuses to get an LJ account has an account on there and uses it to keep in touch with me. I've never even posted to the "blog" thing. People want to read about me they can come to my LJ and read about me there.

So anyway, the last two days I've gotten these SPAMS on MySpace:

"i am not into this freinds trying to find dates for freinds but this colleague of mine was looking at your profile and might have a crush on you. we are trying to find her a good partner, everyone in our group has someone. u seem like a cute good hearted person,we voted 3-1 for u, here look at our freind and see if u are interested, Here is the link"

This is an Add friend link and not a View Profile link. So you have no choice but to add the person or close the window and forget about the whole thing. Once you add them then you are given the option to view their profile. It's always some fairly attractive woman. If you view her most recent blog entry, it's always the same entry for each person.

I found someone that interests me

I was browsing profiles and I ran into a person that reminded me of my 1st crush. I read their myspace and it made me nervous because the person that I once fell for passed away when we started getting serious. I think it might be fate for me to get to know them. I am shy and I don't know where I should take this. I hope that they are reading this. I am a special girl who is looking for a special person and I hope that myspace is it.I have always been a little wild and I hope it doesn't offend the others. Oh well enough of me rambling. I'll think about what Im going to do next."

And they always have the exact same friends in their profile, none of which was the original "friend" who sent you the original message. Other than being toally annoying and filling up your friends box with non-people, I can't see why someone would even take the time to concoct this little SPAM party.

I have an account at another blog that I never use and I have been getting similiar types of spam. I imagine it won't be too long before LJ users see them as well. Someone always has to exploit and ruin a good thing.

I'm not sure I'd call MySpace a good thing by any stretch of the imagination but I agree with you.

Re: Deja Vu
I followed a couple links around on MySpace and apparently it's very widespread.

but here's how to outsmart the idjuts...
right click on the link and select properties... at the end you see:

select and copy just that numerical ID - then go to *your* profile page, and paste it over where your ID # is - voila... you see the profile page without having to do the friend-add garbage! :)

Thanks. In the future I'll just ignore the emails.

*Raises hand*

Ooo ooo ooo!!!

It's our mutual friend right? cause she asked me to open a myspace account as well. I have yet to comply. Don't like myspace. And somehow the thought of filling out that profile gives me the shivers.

Yes the mutual friend.

Yeah, there's no apparent point to these scams until they start asking you for money for some reason.

I've blocked them all now so we'll see what happens. I catully thought it was someone I knew with the first one because they live in the area where I went to High school.
