The Boycott

So I've not heard much on it since it happened. But I have to say that I didn't notice a difference one way or another. No inconveniences nothing delayed. If I hadn't knowin it was going on there was literally nothing out of the ordinary that would have told me so.

Re: I Work..
I don't have a lot of sympathy for illegals. I have every sympathy for people who honestly want to come here and make a better life for themselves and work to become citizens. People who come and want to take advantage of welfare systems and not work will get no support for me. I don't belive in a blanket law to make all the illegals citizens. And I don't cater to all the talk of OK, well who will you get ot pick your crops and take care of your children becasue that does not apply to me or anyone I know for that matter. The big population of legal and illegal hispanics in my area work for a Cargill Foods subsidiary called Excel. It's a pork processing plant and they pay the same working wage to everyone, regardless of ethnic background. Everyone I know that uses daycare uses an established daycare center or worker. No one I know can afford a maid or nanny or housekeeper or could afford someone to come harvest their crops. They do it themselves. I've lived in towns out west where I was in the minority as a white person and you know what, I know about as many lazy hispanics as I do lazy white people but overall I've not known any one ethnic group to be thieves, or lawbreakers or lazy more than any other so I really don't get where the lazy stereotype comes from.

Re: I Work..
actually, out here there were huge effects:

for the entire day, there was no bad traffic in Orange County or on the L.A. freeways. Schoolteachers reported that it was the easiest day of teaching they ever had.

Other than that, no effect. The nearly unanimous opinion out here among legal, taxpaying citizens is that the people who boycotted VASTLY overestimated the effect that they would have, and in fact shot themselves on the foot by causing it to appear as though life will be better without them around.

I laugh in their general direction.

Re: I Work..
I had a strong suspicion that would be the case. Plus I wonder about the legal citizens/workers of companies who closed down for the day like Cargil Foods. Did they get paid for a day off? If not, I'd be pissed.
