Another one down

We just discovered another beer Debra is allergic to. Cellis Raspberry. It's got to be something about the juice because she can drink Cellis White. She has the classic allergic reaction. Itching, hives and swollen tongue. Benadryl to the rescue. Two weeks ago she had the same reaction to Lienenkugels Berry Beer. She's not allergic to raspberries by themselves though she is allergic to strawberries. With the berry beer we though maybe there was some strawberry juice in there but the Cellis says it's just raspberry juice. Maybe there is something common in the preparation of the juices for the two beers or the way it reacts with something else in the beer.

Puzzling.

By any chance is she allergic to apples? I've noticed a lot of fruit juices use apple juice as a base, and those are the juices that give me trouble. Well, those and any candies or jelly made with pectin.

Nope. She drinks apple juice and eats apples regularly. Good thought though. Thanks.

Could it be not the strawberries she's allergic to but mold? I was told that many strawberry allergies (like mine) are mold allergies -- strawberries are prone to trace elements of mold that don't affect most people at all. Since beer is a fermenting process . . .

If mold is a problem, the problem can also appears commonly through through raisens, cheap coffee (it's the way the beans are processed), peanuts.

She's also allergic to figs. Could be the mold I suppose. Her strawberry reaction is really bad though. Hospital time. She really needs to get another allergy test I suppose.
