The State of Things

It's been a long work week. Lots of things to do it seems though this year is one of our slowest. I got to digitize a bunch of board art today using Illustrator's new Live Trace and Live Paint features. Once you get the hang of, it those features really come through for you. Deb was at the farm all week so that gave me lots of time at night to be online and chat with friends. I caught up with dragoneerl and earthsister and also, a new found friend, mahala_cocheta. It's funny, she's been on my FL for a couple years now. I added her just because she was one of the only active LJ people in Rushville, the town I live near. I always thought she was a "good Christian girl" for some reason. Then one night while browsing the people in Rushville with My Space accounts, I came across this gorgeous creature who claimed to be from Rushville though I'd never seen her. So I sent her a note and she happened to be online. She directed me to her yahoo ID and we started chatting long into the night. Found out pretty quickly she was a Pagan and not a Christian. Why I ever thought she was is beyond me. I think in 2-3 years, we may have left one comment each in the other's journals and now it seems we talk every other evening. We are getting together Sunday just to talk and drink some wine and maybe she will let me get a few photos of her lovely self.

I went down to the farm last night and picked Deb up. Brought her back to the city this morning. We'll trade places for the weekend I guess. Deb has keratitis in one eye so she's homebound for the weekend and goes into the eye clinic on Monday.

Last Sunday she and I had a pretty big fight and I needed some space so I took off for parts unknown. Really I didn't know where I was going. I ended up near dark in Carthage, my hometown. On the way out, the full moon was rising very red and I got lucky enough to snap this photo:

The heart of Illinois Fair is getting ready to start here in Peoria. Buckcherry is playing Saturday night. I wouldn't mind seeing them but I'll be at the farm and I'm not coming back for that. Besides, I think we have a local band up at Chaser's Tap on Saturday. I'll be going up there tonight when I get down there so I can help Gwen close when the time comes. That has become my Friday night routine of late.

The Peoria Balloon Fest started today. I've seen balloon launches all week long. They tend to float over our office about this time of evening. I got this snap on Monday. Notice the flame as the pilot makes the balloon rise to clear the high wires near our office.

OK, I'm oughta here and off to the farm. That drive is getting awfully familiar.

Peace,

Wander

Have a good weekend. That is a lovely photo of the red moon rising over the barn. It was overcast here for the last two evenings so I didn't get to see the moonrise.

It's been a lovely full moon. Farmers harvesting wheat are kicking up a lot of dust into the atmosphere. Plus corn detassling has started down this way so lots of color to the sunsets and moonrises. I love this time of year.

Farmers are just now harvesting wheat where you are? It's been out of the fields here for at least 3 weeks and the no-till soybeans are already sizeable.

I went across the road this evening and yanked an ear of corn. I wanted to check it out as the Japanese Beetles are eating the silks. The only silks were inside the shucks and the corn is filled out and very tender. So I went back and got 3 more ears. It's not my field but I know the guy who owns it.

I thought you'd be gone until tomorrow. Maybe the heat got to you; it's going to be bad tomorrow. (See the post I put up late this evening.)

I'm glad you replied here as I had another opportunity to see that lovely red moon rising over the old barn. It's beautiful.

I hope Deb's eye gets better soon. I have a lot of trouble with severe allergies and asthma. The pollen really bothers my eyes. My left eye has tears now I suppose from yanking the corn =)

My allergies are killing me this year. I've never had itchy eyes like this before. Yeah on the wheat, for some reason it was a late harvest this year. I suppose ti could have something to do with having a sustained drought since last year. The beans in my fields are about thigh high now. And the corn is nice and tall.

Please be careful in the heat tomorrow. The weather I posted in my lj came out of St. Louis, MO as that's where I get my news/weather reception from (other than a weather download from a nearby military base).

The corn I picked tonight is at least 12" higher than my head and I'm 5'8".

Ah so you are south of me which explains the taller crops. Hmmmm tomorrow I think I'll do about as much as I did today which amounted to almost nothing.

On the news this evening they were telling people not to be outdoors unless it was absolutely necessary. I know some things must be done and some people must work outside.

I'm going to make like a bat and stay indoors with the drapes closed.

I think I know a friend's pool that has my name on it.

Hey, I've changed my LJ to piscesdreams. I won't be posting in my old one anymore.

I like the feel of those photos. Nice shot of the moon. I usually associate that colour with autumn.

Lots of my friends seem to be changing their LJ names. I guess it's a trend. Yeah the moonshot. They've been cutting wheat down here and starting to de-tassle the corn so lots of dust and pollen in the atmosphe makes for colorful sunsets and moonrises.

Heh. "Moonvision" always sounded like something related to television or film to me... (like Technicolor)

the barn pic isn't too far from where i used to live. :-) My house was right next to Knorr & Walker and (the old) drivers liscense station, and across from C.A.R.S. I wish I still lived there (except not in Carthage)...i loved that house and the huge-tastic front and back yard.

It's a neat area down there. Much closer to the Big River. I enjoy it when we have family reunions and I get to visit with my cousisn still in Carthage. Though aside from that, there is nothing special about Carthage for me. I think I could live anywhere in the West Central Illinois countryside and be happy.

the only thing i liked about Carthage was my house. I still have dreams where i'm living there. :-) it's my safe place.

Thanks, I'm sure it will. She just needs to have a real eye doctor look at it and maybe give her an antibotic. Thankfully I've been able to avoid getting to close to her and catching it myself. Don't want no part of that stuff.
