Songs about Me

Ryl gave me this idea. She did it yesterday and I promised her I'd do it today. So here it is. A list of 20 songs that describe some aspect of my life. These things are always flitting around in my head. I'll make everyone a deal. The first person to reply and correctly name them all, artist and title, I'll make them a custom price of jewelry free of charge. OK, Here goes nothing:

1) In the sun with your dress undone
Now ev'ry mile away and ev'ry day
Cuts a little deeper

2) We drove that car as far as we could
Abandoned it out west
Split up on a dark sad night
Both agreeing it was best

3) I didn't get nothing. I had to pay 50 dollars and pick up all the garbage.

4)Wasted, sacrifice for a new nirvana, Night time, send us on our way

5)Follow dry river bed - watch Scout and Guides make pow-wow signs, Past Geronimo's disco - Sit 'n' Bull steakhouse - white men dream

6)Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys

7) By the dark of the moon I planted
But there came an early snow

8) Even though the tears are fallin', fallin' from your eyes
He might be thrillin' baby but my love is ready and willin'

9) And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue
The guitar's comin' through to soothe me

10) Well little things you say and do make me want to be with you

11) they give you
the credit and the whole world's read it but we discovered you

12) And as I still walk on,
I think of the things we've done
Together, while our hearts were young

13) I know every engineer on every train
All the children and all of their names
And every handout in every town
And every lock that ain't locked when no-one's around

14) Oh, well I roam from town to town,
I go through life without a care,
And I'm as happy as a clown

15) I straddled that Greyhound
And rode into Raleigh
And on across Caroline

16) Well I was rollin' down the road in some cold blue steel,
I had a blues man in back, and a beautician at the wheel.

17)Just for a moment I stood there in silence
Shocked by the foul, evil deed I had done
Many thoughts raced through my mind as I stood there
I had but one chance and that was to run

18) And if you have a certain evenin'
You could lend to me
I'd give it all right back to you
A how it has to be with you
I know your moves and your mind

19) I feel like letting my freak flag fly
Cause I feel like I owe it to someone

20) What we are and what we ain't...
What we can and what we can't...
Doesn't really matter...

Good luck and Peace,

Geez I'm clueless.
Dude I can't name a single one of them.

Re: Geez I'm clueless.
I can see I'm going to have to give people clues on this one. The blonde from down the hall came in a second ago and got the first one right off the bat. You of all people ought to be able to get at least a couple of them right.

As easy as it would be to cheat, I have too much respect for ya, so I have to honestly admit that I don't know a damned one of 'em. Damn...it would be really cool to own a piece of specially made jewelry. Oh well, maybe I'll enter the next contest.

Go ahead and cheat. You mean with a lyrics search engine don't you? I never said you couldn't. But beware, there is at least one ringer in there that is pretty obscure and you might not find it even with a search engine.

Looks like somebody beat me to it anyway...answering them all, I mean. No idea whether she cheated or not, but then again, I've no idea whether she was correct or not. Oh well...

i can't name them, but i'm going to post it in my livejournal for the first post of the day and see if anyone else can

Cool. It was a public post but I know only so many people read my journal. I'll leave the contest open until tomorrow I guess since no one got it yesterday.

Mar. 21st, 2001 08:31 am (UTC)
15 , oh damn I know 15, just can't think, maybe after coffee.

Fun game, but HARD! I don't know barely any!
Mar. 21st, 2001 08:42 am (UTC)
One down
Yep, you got Alice's Restaurant right. Which means either you are old enough to remember this song or you've been listening to just about any mainstream rock radio station on Thanksgiving for the past 30 years.

Good luck on the rest!

Re: Yes!

that was tough, I JUST got Puff the Magic Dragon and the Tangled up in Blue, and Promised Land, but you already got them all. YAY YOU!

Re: Yes!
Nope, these are all on vinyl in my record collection. I just looked up some of the liner notes for the less well known lyrics. 18 is right artist but wrong song title unless these songs share some of the same lyrics.

19 out of 20 Not too bad.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 are absolutely right. 8) I was actually refering to the Nylons version but I'll give you that one since most people know that one. 9&10 right on. I know Michael Martin Murphy and I love that song. 11) I can't believe you got that. Did you use a search engine or had you heard it before. Don't know too many other fans of XIT. 12, 13, 14 right on again. 15) I was thinking of Elvis since I think most people are familiar with his version of it but I'll give you that one as well. 16, 17 - Yup, Yup. 18 - Right artist, wrong song title. Same album though. 19 and 20 right on both counts.

Re: 19 out of 20 Not too bad.
Ok so you answered Shaman's Blues before anyone else did so you win. YaY. I have a freind wo is a full blooded Arapahoe. I lived with him in Denver for awhile when we were both going through some pretty nasty shit and drove each other crazy. When we moved out and went our separate ways, I thought we had burned the bridge but we got in touch in the last couple of years and patched things up. He and I used to take these long rides in his car from Denver all the way down to Mexico and camp out in the dessert and watch the stars and listen to XIT so it got stuck in my brain. He recently changed from his white name back to his given Arapaho name of Dan Black Coal and is living on the reservation and working for the Arapaho nation. And I'm studying to be a shaman.

Well so you need to tell me what kind of jewelry you generally wear and what kinds of stones you like. It will take me about a week to get something finished and sent out. If you choose a ring, you need to tell me ring size. I'll also need to know your address to send to.

Write me at dierker@inx.net.

Re: 19 out of 20 Not too bad.
Dan is a direct descendant of Chief Black Coal who made a pact with the Shoshone so that the Arapaho could live on the same reservation, shortly after the Sand Creek Massacre at their ancestral home in Colorado. Chief Black Coal's grandson is called Pius Moss and he is currently a very aged shaman. Dan is Pius Moss's grandson. A few years back when they built the new Denver airport, part of one of the runways was to cross a section of ground where the Sand Creek Massace had taken place. So in a gesture of good will, the City of Denver arranged to have leaders of the tribes who had been in the area at the time of the massacre to come down and bless the site. Pius Moss came and brought Dan with him. It was the first time in over 100 years, representatives of the Arapaho Nation had visited the site due to a belief about bad luck coming to those who linger in a place where death has occured. Anyway, Dan helped his grandfatehr and others in a ceremony aimed at laying the dead to rest and making the ground safe again.

I'm currentle researching my family tree trying to find a Native link which everyone says is there. If I can document it, I can petition for adoption into the Shawnee Nation in NC. The Nation's Principal Chief Dorathy Whitehawk and Second Chief Becky Starhawk and their Shaman Terri Many Spirits are friends of mine as well as mentors in my shaman training. I too have a great respect for any Native American who decides to return the way of life of his people rather than cling to the trappings of white society.

My fiancee is part Cherokee as well, only she looks a lot more Native than I do. I look Irish.
