Not the best of news

This was to be my illustrated vacation post. However, at 9 am I found out as of November 1, me and 52 other people are out of a job. Good thing I had a nice vacation before it all happened.

Peace,

Wander

Wander, I am so sorry. Just as the holidays are approaching makes this even worse.

I will pray that you find another job quickly.

Peace,
Judy

We'll see. I'm meeting with the HR folks all day about separation agreements and so forth. None of us are being offered other positions though there are other positions available in places like Los Angeles and Columbus. But we have to approach them as if we were new prospective employees just like everyone else. I'm just sort of numb right now and considering all my options.

That blows goats. Anything I can do to help out, ask.

That being said, is relocation an option? I can put out some feelers and see what's in the area if you & Deb are interested in heading south.

It may be time to consider that option. At least the moving part. We've always said if we were going to move east then the Carolinas were the place we would consider first. Thanks for your offer, I'll let you know. I have these meetings withthe HR folks today to see what our severance package is and what my options are. I intended on making a career with this corporation so if I can find a position with one of our other offices I may look at those first but Those options would have me in places like Los Angeles or Chicago or Columbus, so I'm not sure.

Fuck. If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know.

*hugs you tight* I'm certain you'll find something. It could be a good change.

Change always has some good things to it. I'm probably in a better position than many of my coworkers. I'm younger for one thing and have more education and more familiarity with trends of the modern workplace. Right now I'm looking at positions up near Chicago and in Dubuque, Iowa which are still fairly close. But by February, I'll need to be in another position of some kind. That's when benefits will run out.

WTF???? That's insane!!! Do you know why they cut everyone?

I hope you find something else soon!

About a month ago, our division was consolidated with another major division. So now they are paring 5 offices down to 4. Some positions will be available at the other 4 so some of us may have a shot at those. But basically they are closing our office for good and it's been open for about 50 years now.

Ouch, sorry to hear that, Mark. Five years ago (almost to the day!) I got laid off as part of the post-9/11 tech slump and that was the beginning of some much better things for me (I got into business for myself and I became a lot happier)... I hope it will be the same for you!

I'm hoping too. I have options. I'd wanted to make a career here but it's a a big industry and there are other players I've gained a reputation with.

Thanks,

Blows goats as someone else said. If I apply for the position in Woodland Hills that is open I may be your neighbor soon though.

Oh Babe...
That is really sucky! I would love to have you back home though.... :). It was so nice seeing you on your visit. We could go to Ren Fest, eat Steak on a Stick and drive out to Rehobeth to watch the waves roll in. I know you will take it in stride, love you babe! ~B

Getting laid off sucks. I've been through it several times.
I'm sorry. You will land on your feet -- good follows good.

Yes I will. I may need to look beyond the publishing field. There are some huge corporations in this city and I could land a job with any of them if I worked it right. I suppose I wouldn't mind working for Cat or John Deere the rest of my life.

I'm sorry to hear this happen to you, my friend. Having seen this happen time and time again, it's not something I find pleasant at all (except for the coworker who got a hefty severance package and he was going to retire in a month anyway!).

Oh no, that really sucks -- I'm sorry to hear it. Is it budget cuts of some sort? Let me know if you need anything, and good luck....
wander
Sep. 27th, 2006 03:50 pm (UTC)
Not so much budget cuts as restructuring the company. Our division was consolidated with another and they are reducing the number of offices. They let 170 people in NY go, closed our office and the regional sales office down by St. Louis. So probably around 350 people affected.

Oh, dear.

To repeat what others have already said -- let me know if there is anything I can do to help, sometimes things like this are for the better, big *hugs* to you.

Maybe that "pushing through the water" was more than a driving experience. Maybe it is a metaphor for what life is handing you right now? Just some thought that rose to the top of my brain...

*hugs*

Also the otehr day I came upon an abandoned building full of cats. I'm thinking that was some kind of sign.
