The Mild and the Meandering

I've not accomplished an awful lot this weekend. Got to the bar Friday night around 11:30 to help Gwen close up and got slobbered on by Lynn and Mel. Why didn't I stay at the other end of the bar? Saturday I made Frogmore stew. Took a big bowl over to Rob and Gwen. Kenny called and said he and Lori would be out of town. I told them I'd bring their portion over on Sunday.

Saturday night we went out to Chasers for the costume contest and DJ. The DJ sucked pretty badly but on toward the end of the night, people made enough good requests that we all got out and danced. Megan slugged me in the arm later in the night to get my attention. She wanted to appologize for her drunken behavior back in June when I had to drive her and her drunk ass friends home from the Harley giveaway. I told her not to worry. People in small towns have to look out for each other. She smiled and hugged me. Later she danced with Gwen and I.

There was a fight late in the evening in the bar which quickly got moved outside. Rob went to help and I backed him up but it was mostly over with by the time we pushed through the crowd. Typical...it started because some guy came in with some other guy's ex-girlfriend. Of course words were said and the shoving ensued.

Allison came in toward the end of the night. Trouble always seems to follow her. She was marreid to one of our mutual friends a few years ago and they pretty much ruined each other's lives. She got my attention and asked if I remembered her. I told her, "I know who you are, you are the one who puked in my barn and broke my DVD player all in the same night." She said she'd changed since then. But since I know she got busted lately, I kinda doubt that statement.

Today Kenny called me and told me he'd gotten permission for me to photograph his neighbor's barn. Very cool place. An old Dutch barn with attached silo. We spent an hour photographing the place. It had some really unique features. Then we went back over to his house and drank a few beers standing out by his truck. We were exchanging road stories for quite awhile. Kenny used to be a long haul trucker so we had lots of things to talk about. Lori came out after awhile and talked with us. She gave me a quart of vegetable stew she'd made in exchange for the Frogmore Stew and cornbread I'd given them earlier in the day. Just past dark, I drove on home and enjoyed my quart of veggie stew. Yummy.

Well as of tomorrow, I have six more days of work. I really don't want it to end. I love my job and I'd begun to mold it into a real career for myself that I would have been able to use to transition to something bigger and better in the company. Not that this has not happened before, I can't tell you how many booms and busts I've lived through. I just hate starting over all the time.

Peace,

Wander

I hope something comes along for you quickly, especially with the holidays approaching.

I'll find something one way or another. Freelancing from the farm is an option. I just don't like having to hold money back for taxes and paying for insurance and all of that.
