Of new jobs and more vacations

I got a job offer from McGraw-Hill Higher education today. I felt the salary offer was a little low so I asked for about $3,000 more. They should decide by tomorrow and let me know. The offer includes about $6,000 to cover relocation expenses and I would start January 16. So as soon as I get back from Xmas vacation, I'd have to start looking for housing up around Joliet or Tinley Park or maybe Napierville/Aurora.

On another note, I'm leaving Friday for NC and I'll be there until the 29th. If anyone there or in between would like a visit coming or going, let me know.

Oh and I won 2 - 80Gb Video iPods. How sweet is that?

It would be a Christmas blessing if tomorrow or the next day you find out that you got the job. I'll pray that all goes well.

Off topic, but on you trip to NC, you made mention of photographing ruins. Did you ever post them? If you did, I'm sure I saw them. Were these abandoned homes, barns, etc.?

Nope, I've been really bad about not posting things on Rural Ruin for awhile. Just have not had the time. I've probably got 2 dozen posts worth of ruins and I'll be taking some more next week.

Congrats poppabear. You've been in my thoughts a lot. It's great to read about good stuff especially if it concerns you.

Wow, 2 iPods? Lucky brat. I can't even score one for my child. But that's a different story.

[huggles you tight]

Take care poppabear.

Stitch says Hi and Huggles. The way I won the iPods is stupid. Corbis Stock Photos was having this promotion for people that ordered $30,000 worth stock photos. You either got an iPod or a Canon digital camera. I was put in charge of ordering all the photos for 4 different projects all at once before we closed down. I bought $75,000 worth of photos for the company, not my money. But since the company no longer exists and they had my personal contact info, they are letting me have the prizes. I already have a digital camera so I chose 2 iPods. How funny is that?

good news!

i will be out of town from the 24th - 27th. i would LOVE it if you could stop in MD on your way back. i don't have any commitments that weekend beginning after 5:30pm 12/29 - although i think we're getting together with mike's family at some point that weekend.

Have to be another time. I take the southern route through KY and Tenn to get to NC and back. I go through MD on my way to VA. So next trip out there we can get together, Hugs.

sending tons of 'get the job' vibes your way!! :)

and you won 2 iPods? must be your good karma buddy!! now let's have that roll over into the job hunt!! :)

Dec. 20th, 2006 05:47 pm (UTC)
The rerason I won 2 iPods was I ordered a bunch of stuff for my previous company before they closed up. The iPods were an incentive gift to the company for ordering so much but since the company no longer exists at that location, guess who gets the prize?

Good luck, I'll be crossing my fingers for you. Need to live vicariously through other editors since I can't find a gig of my own up here. :)
Dec. 20th, 2006 05:48 pm (UTC)
Once I get in place, I'll ask around but I actually know of some freelance editor stuff if you are interested.

Congratulations on the job offer... I sincerely hope they offer you the higher amount and lock you in. They'd be foolish to let you get away.

And yes, we'd love to see you! I have Saturday completely free, and off of work, so I'd actually get to see you for more than ten minutes. :)

Dec. 20th, 2006 05:50 pm (UTC)
Email me a phone number and I'll stop off and see you. I'll be heading for the folks house on Saturday but have no definite time I need to be there. Plus I'm reasonably free all next week as well if we need to work something else out.

Well, you know, if you're in the area...

Can I tempt you with a dog who barks at anyone over 5'10"?
Dec. 20th, 2006 05:51 pm (UTC)
You can tempt me with your awesome hugs. The dog is just icing on the cake.

Dec. 20th, 2006 02:06 pm (UTC)
The kids and I will be around most of the weekend. Based on the number of people who want to see you in the Raleigh area, maybe we should organize a Saturday lunch somewhere. *grin*

Good luck on the job. I'll keep you in my thoughts & prayers.
Dec. 20th, 2006 05:54 pm (UTC)
The only monkey wrench in that plan is seeing how far I get on Friday as I know I'll be driving into bad weather. But if I can get to the Raleigh area early enough on Saturday, maybe we can all get together. Does Miss Dragonfly have your contact info?

Dear Wander,

I offer up my prayers for their acceptance of your request. It sounds like a wonderful position for you.
Dec. 20th, 2006 05:57 pm (UTC)
I hate to spoil the surprise for another post but I accepted it about an hour ago. They did come up on their offer by $2,000 plus a $6,700 relocation package and I qualify for a 4.5% raise in 2007 since I worked most of 2006 and the company wide bonus in April. So with all of that, I'll actually get what I was asking for in the first place.

Thanks for the prayers.

Stop wasting your luck/karma on iPods and direct it towards a new job! LOL
Wow... 2 iPods!!! One for each ear!!! ;)
Dec. 20th, 2006 05:58 pm (UTC)
Well it appears I had enough karma for everything because I got it all. I'll probably sell one iPod to finance the DSLR purchase.

I can and do but telling someone else how to do it might be a bit of a stretch. I can shapeshift too but I'm not at all sure how I do that. Astral projecting is a usual part of my shamanic journeying and usually it just happens but I have set my intent to go certain places before as well. I very easily settle into a trance/journey state and then I just think about where I want to go and I'm there. I think it's much less a matter of practicing than it is a matter of conciously allowing it to happen. It's kind of like love, when you are trying to find it, it becomes very ellusive, but when you stop trying so hard, all of a sudden it finds you.

Dude, that is such good news! I would ask you to stop by here on the way down, but that would just be selfish with all the other people that want to share in your general yummy goodness. I will let my other half know all the good news. Happy Solstice. tomyris
Dec. 24th, 2006 09:37 pm (UTC)
I'd have loved to have stopped by but you guys are pretty far out of the way when I go to NC. I'll get back there soon though. It is apparently very important for me to go to the new American Indian Museum.

I almost forgot to mention that I used to do this as a kid. I remember being a wolf on more than one occasion and only once a male lion. Which was a real power trip. I love the way it feels to run like a wolf, like you are just gliding over the ground, no effort at all and you can just keep running and running and running and there is a sense of being part of the pack that travels with you. Your alone in a good way, but not alone. Very cool. I haven't tried that in a long time, maybe I should soon. tomyris

Re: Shape-shifting
It help sort out problems sometimes I think. I've been astral projecting conciously since around the time I met Eric but I think I was doing it in my dreams before then. Always leaves me feeling more peaceful.
