Wandering again soon.

Saturday morning early I start my Christmas Kerouac thing. Well without the gratuitous car theft and sex with underage girls...hopefully. But yeah, Wandering out to the White Mountains of Arizona to join my family at a resort for the holiday. I'm not sure my route through IL, MO, KS, OK, TX, NM and AZ crosses anyone's path but if you think it might, let me know and I'll try to arrange a visit.

By the way, next time I fly to Seattle, since renting a car costs so much, I think I'll consult Craig's List before I go and just buy a cheap car when I get there. Drive it around for a week and then leave it at the airport when I fly out. They will eventually tow it and sell it for scrap probably. Makes no difference to me after I use it. Probably be cheaper than the $700 I paid last time for a weekly car rental.

Haha the "Christmas Kerouac thing" makes me laugh.

Thats so great that you get to do that... I never have money to do that kind of thing. Everyone tells me that if I go through school and get a high-paying job that I'll be able to... but I've got too much adventure in me to spend time in school right now... So I'm stuck exploring this area further...

Have a great time!!!

Oh and the car idea... pretty awesome!!!

Take my advice. have adventures when you are young and poor. It makes for better memories. when you get older and have a high paying job it gets much harder to have adventures. because you only get a week off here and there and you always have to come back to work sober.

Save a little money and take a train trip. Or take an old car that doesn't matter if it breaks down and just make sure you keep enough money for bus fare back. See the country while there is still country to see.

I remember fondly driving from NC to Flagstaff in a 74 Pinto station wagon with no AC in the summer and just camping out in rest areas and KOA Kampgrounds along the way. I lived on soup and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for days. Some of the best times of my life. Best meal of my life was on the road. Uneeda Bisquits, a can of tuna fish and a bottle of Bacardi 151 shared with a great travelling buddy.

I keep forgetting to mention . . .

Mary Jo's son is the former City Planner of Scottsdale, AZ. He just joined an consulting group -- I believe he's got all sorts of environmental credentials and background as well.

He has a background and interest in audio recording. Now that Jason taped her talk to the Noetic Sciences group, mix down and images are the next wish.

Oh Cool, maybe I can see him when I go back out to AZ the first week of the year. Tell Mary Jo I'm starting to work on her stuff now that my work load is clearing out a bit.

I'll start back on the 28th so it might be sometime on the 29th when I would come through. If not, I might catch you in the Spring when I come back down your way.

a) Sure you wouldn't rather go KS, CO, NM, AZ? :)

b) Next time you rent a car, use my method - got to Priceline.com, and put in ridiculously low amounts... Typically, I get an SUV (runs $60-90/day most places we go) for $15-20... for my trip to Dallas in January? A minivan (Priceline suggested I put in $42/day) for $20/day (usually pricier than SUVs)
Before the child, we used to put in "economy car" and $9/day - and get it, and then because no one ever has economy cars on-hand, we'd get bumped up to a 'standard'

Great ideas. I can't believe how much car rental charges are in some Cities. When I used to rent in Peoria and drive cross country, I could get $150 a week. I about choked when they told me it would be $700 for the week in Seattle.

In Seattle, they told me that I couldn't get an SUV for less than $72/day... thru priceline I got it for $22/day. Blew my cousin away who we were going to see.
