CLINTON — The hearing for a Clinton newspaper publisher accused of failing to pay fines and fees related to more than $26,500 in bad checks he wrote to the Clinton Post Office was delayed Friday until March 14.
David Holt, publisher of the weekly DeWitt County Constitution is charged with violating the terms of his probation by failing to pay $1,642 in court costs, $750 in probation fees and a $200 DNA fee required of convicted felons. Holt was convicted in 2004 of writing numerous checks to the post office to mail the newspaper to subscribers.
Holt still owes the postal service $13,950 in restitution, according to court records.
Holt’s attorney, Dick Koritz, argued in court last month that Holt has made the required $400 monthly payments in restitution, but is financially unable to pay more on the balance.
State’s Attorney Jerry Johnson contends Holt should find another job that provides more than the estimated $8,000 he said he earned last year running the paper.
The state objected to the defense request to continue the matter to March 14."
Is it wrong of me to read this and giggle uncontrolably?

On the news today they reported that our govenor and Obama both accepted money from a man on trial/going on trial for illegal activity. (I'm trying to recall how this was worded). The news reported that Obama and the governor's link to this person is potentially damaging.

If exploited, it could hurt his campaign. Few people would elect a candidate if they believed he was about to be investigated for his ties with Rezko.
