Spring Council

Over the weekend, I went to Lenoir, NC for our Nation's (Shawnee) Spring Council Meeting. it took place at our Council Lands we just purchased. We've already got a council office decorated and a teepee up and purchased another to put up. We dedicated the land to begin with and then all 24 of of us crammed ourselves into that one 14 foot teepee. It will be nice when we get the 18 footer up as well. But it was very nice having a place of our own to call home.

Peace,

Wander

Wow ... Beautiful upper picture.

And it hits me, I never thought to ask if you know of anyway to discover what tribe(s) Ana's ancestors are from (all on her father's side) ... it's probably a matter of digging through paperwork (adoption, birth, et al), but do you know of any type of service specific to the First Nations that helps people discover their genetic/genealogic history?

People do take DNA tests for that sort of thing now but it's a tad expensive. I found mine by just doing my family tree and narrowed down the location and the time period then did research from there. I could help you with that a bit. Once you know a tribe then each one generally has resources for you to use. Let me know some background and I'll see what I can help with.

Yes, DNA tests can be helpful at least to regional ancestry, but from what I can gather, most of Ana's Native descent comes from the Algonquin regions around New England and Quebec. Unfortunately, exactly which tribe(s) she's related to I don't know. If money weren't an issue, I'd have already investigated this through several avenues ... I'll send an email with more detail. Thanks for the offer of help. :)

Oh, and forgive me, CONGRATULATIONS! How many acres were purchased?

We got a little over an acre but with options to buy a couple more behind and around us. It's little enough but enough for now.

It's in the lower part of the mountains. Midway between Asheville and Winston Salem. 20 miles or so North of I-40. Thanks!

is this the piece of land you were worried about buying from that kid who had all kinds of restrictions he wanted to place on you all, or did you decide not to go with that one and this is a different piece. As I rememeber he wanted you to take out trash and work on the road or limit access to the road? Just wondering if this is the same one you talked about earlier and how everything was resolved.

Nice teepee!

Same seller but farther down the road and away from the property the kid lives on. Much nicer piece of land.
