I believe I'll spend part of my day off tomorrow filling sandbags, probably in Quincy or Ursa. There is a Native graves site that is in danger of being lost if the water gets to high near Ursa.
Thank you for doing this. I remember the long dark night I spent building walls against the flood of 1993; It was a harrowing, frightening experience, and a lot of work as well. And it is something that just does not get done without volunteer help.
Unfortunately/fortunately for us, most of the work has either been done or the levee's have broken. Ursa is in the vicinity of Meyer, the town they evacuated earlier this week and is now under several feet of water. This effort is probably more of a bandaid but maybe it will save some homes and historic places or at least give people time to get to safety.
