A Wandering

Apparently the new job will have me wandering as well. I just spent the last 2 days in Dubuque, Iowa where I may be moving this summer depending on where I'm needed the most. After I get back from Christmas in North Carolina, I have to go to NY City for a week in early January and immediately after, a trip to San Francisco for at least 3 days unless I also decide to drive down to LA for a day or two. So all friends in the San Francisco area, I'll be there sometime in January. If I don't need to go to LA, I'll come in on a Wednesday and won't fly back out until Sunday so I have time for some visiting. Then later in the year, I'm looking at trips to Boise and Flagstaff. Maybe not the most glamorous of places but I won't complain about free travel no matter where it takes me. I may have to go to India in the Spring.

Peace,

Wander

Yeah although the last group from our company that went spent much of the time puking in the hotel room from some bad water they got hold of. But I'll take lots of pictures before I go down.

Well the domestic stuff is good. Not actually thrilled about going to India except for the excellent photo ops.

I read his entries. It will not be my most anticipated trip if I go. Many of our last contingent ended up getting violently ill. Beside, the parts of other countries I like to see are not the parts you see on a business trip.

Have you ever been to NYC? And do you know where you're staying? Because I know a place or two...

It's been better than 20 years ago. We have a corporate travel service that usually arranges our hotels. Usually the Millennium Hilton in Manhattan I think. It's just a couple blocks from our offices at 2 Penn Plaza.

When I got to San Fran I'll have more of a choice though.

Hopefully when you make it out here, I'll be finished with the crazy moving and things. Maybe Laurie and I will even have the studio fitted out.

And India is a great place to get a lot of nice clothes made for cheap. I am not even kidding. Silk sarees for days, too - and that ends up being something like $4 a yard for real silk, which is unheard of in the 'States.

Of course, then you have to get it *back* to the 'States...

Actually, Flagstaff is one of the most wonderful towns on the planet. And I hear Boise's pretty cool, too.

Boise is really nice. I was there in the winter of 99 for a photo shoot. And I love Flagstaff. Didn't say they were not special, just not glamorous. I used to live in Flag as well. Met a pretty little waitress at Little America truck stop who showed me a really good time around Flag and Sedona for a few days around my birthday in 1995.

I suppose that depends upon what one considers glamorous. The rooms of the old hotel in which I stayed last time I was in Flagstaff (The Hotel Monte Vista) are all named for the various actors and actresses and celebrities of other types who stayed there. Guests have ranged from John Wayne, Debbie Reynolds and Clark Gable, to Zane Grey, to Siouxsie Sioux and Michael Stipe. And the place still has that classic Hollywood hotel feel to it.

Then too, there's places like Riordan Mansion, or that rather classy wine bar nearly across the street from the Monte Vista.

And hey, nothing is more glamorous than Route 66!

I should get you a pencil sharpener for Christmas...so you can pencil in things in between your required wanderings. :D
