The Weekend

Fun but hectic weekend. Deb and I went down to the farm together. My folks are visiting for a month and brought their cats since one is 16 and they didn't want to board them. So Saturday we took our time in getting there and Sunday we had the Artist Reception for the Amateur Show. The folks tagged along and seemed to really enjoy themselves though Dad admitted to not really understanding some of the more abstract pieces. I join him in that. So Here are some photos of the show:

The Gallery

Mom looking at the Mixed Media work. Dad looking at the Paintings. The Mixed Media Winner. The Sculpture Winner and the overall Best in Show winner.

Sunday night Dad and I spent cleaning the garage which seems to be an annual chore now but this time we were actually throwing whole boxes of stuff away. Our criteria was anything that has not been looked at, moved or used in the last 10 years is getting thrown out. You would not believe how much stuff this included. Of course as soon as we pitch it we'll need it.

On Monday I tracked down my cousin Johnny to do a photo shoot. I had an assignment from work to get a shot of a farmer using a laptop on the hood of his truck. That's easy for me to get since I know so many farmers but the problem is, we've had so much rain that farmers are just now getting their crops planted so the chances of finding a field full of knee high corn as a backdrop are slim to none. We did manage to set something up though and it came out well. This was a shot where he looked up and winked at the camera when we were screwing around setting up the shot.

So I'm back in the city and working today then after work it's back down to the farm and tomorrow morning I leave for Kansas City to spend a couple days eating and drinking with nayrene and then Friday I'll be working out of the Dubuque office where I have a photo shoot for a cover to do.

Congratulations on the photos! You look wonderful in that picture.

I really like the photo of your cousin, also. He looks mischievous.

All the single Shawnee ladies in our Nation like him too. They fawn all over him. I think he likes being single.

It sounds like a great weekend with your family! You're positively glowing in your pic. Art should have no boundaries but I personally believe that a lot of abstract art is overrated. That "Best of Show" is an example. I really like that bird sculpture though!

Your parents must have been quite happy for your accomplishments!
