Got one in

I just found out that one of the six photos I entered into the National Juried Art exhibition in August actually made the cut. This one which should be no surprise since it was at the top of everyone's lists.

Tomorrow I'm going to an artist reception for the second of the shows I entered which will feature these 4 photos:

That last one I had not shown here before. It's a photo of my grandmother milking her favorite cow Abigail. It was taken in June of 93. She passed away the following month. She was 86. She never knew I took this photo. The Gallery owner wrote to me to tell me how much she enjoyed my photos. It's an all photo show/competition so hopefully I'll win something at least. I know several local photographers who asked me not to enter any of my barn photos so they could have a chance at winning. That's a nice compliment.

It was a scan of a photo I'd long ago lost the negative for. It was slightly torn and mangled but I worked the old Photoshop magic on it and viola! I love it too so I kicked out one of the others I was going to enter.

where is the piano one from?

One of my posts from last Spring in RR. It's in a house not too far from me.

The lightning photo with the cloud rotation looks like a real winner to me!

I have high hopes for your piano photo -- I've loved that since I first saw it.

They didn't want you to enter the 'barn photo' contest. Hrumph! Bite me!

They just didn't want me to enter my barn photos so they would have a chance to win. That's OK, I wasn't planning to anyway.

Congratulations on such impressive work!

The one of your grandmother is so timeless and amazing!

I'd been looking at it for awhile and figured this was a good venue for it since the place it is hanging was one of her haunts when she was alive. She was a painter.

What a perfect tribute!

I love the one of your grandmother! how wonderful! I can understand them asking you to not enter LOL... you are tough competition!

I got lots of good comments but didn't win anything this time. I can honestly say though the one that did win deserved to won and none of mine were any better.

Yeah! Pictures!

I don't have the composition eye yet. So, I don't understand the bird nest photo. It's 2 eggs. Uh huh. And? I can only see the dramatic stuff like the lightning storm. I can sorta see the point of the piano, but the eggs, nope, not getting it.

Did you use a filter for the bridge or did you photoshop it?
Jul. 13th, 2009 03:31 pm (UTC)
Neither on the bridge. Hand held, shot at night during a light rain, standing above the bridge. It's the lights on the bridge that change the color like that. I titled the eggs in the nest - Single Family Home. It's just unusual to actually see eggs in a nest and they are not usually that color. Very unusual color. The piano was the only whole thing in a house that was otherwise ruined. Kind of gives you a feel of an element of the life of the family that lived in that house.

They're really quite awesome photos. You have a great eye (and luck, with that lightning!) The one of your grandmother is great too, especially with the memory attached to it. Congratulations.

Thanks. Didn't win any awards but got good comments and they are hanging for a month which is the important thing.
