My little backwoods county in Illinois now has it's very own CSI-worthy murder mystery going on. Here is what is on the surface:

Rushville man dies in rollover accident

Posted Oct 03, 2009 @ 06:02 PM

RUSHVILLE -- A 22-year-old Rushville man died when his pickup truck rolled over in Schuyler County early Saturday.

Ryan L. Jones was taken to Culbertson Hospital in Rushville, where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained during the crash, according to Illinois State Police. The incident happened about 2:45 a.m.

Jones was westbound on Lower Beardstown Road about a half mile west of White Oak Road in a Ford F-350 truck. The vehicle left the road, rolled over and came to a rest on the driver’s side in the grass-covered ditch, police said.

State police continue to investigate the crash.

What the short article doesn't say is that the FBI is also investigating the crash. No why would the FBI be investigating something that is ostensibly a case of drunken driving? Because the coroner found that the body that was brought in had actually been dead long before the accident. Brings up several interesting possibilities doesn't it?

On Friday night, Deb and I took over a second load of stuff to the new house in Dubuque. I wanted her to at least see the inside of the house before we moved in since I picked it out. We've decided it is technically a 4 bedroom because of an eave storage room that was converted to a bedroom. That will now be my photography studio and she will get one of the first floor bedrooms for a library. Anyway we are storing our stuff in the eave room until we do the actual move this weekend. I'm way more sore than I should be from moving a room's worth of boxes and carrying them up those stairs. This weekend is the main move with the 17 foot U-Haul truck.

On Saturday while coming down to Rushville from Dubuque, we saw a fox in broad daylight trotting in the ditch alongside the road. Figured it must have been sick to be out in the light right next to a very well used highway. Then later down by Beardstown, we saw a Coy-Dog. And I have to say, it definitely got the worst genetic traits of both parents. Plus it was covered with mange. It had the Coyote bounce to its step but almost looked more like a dingo. It was seen in the same place in the middle of the afternoon both while we were going to Beardstown and returning an hour later.

On Sunday Johnie and I went to the tiny village of St. Mary's, IL to trim weeds around the graves of my grandmother and grandfather on Mom's side. They are buried nowhere near the town where they lived and raised 9 kids which I found strange. Then I found out that until the 50's, there was only one Catholic Church for several counties in IL and it was at St. Mary's so if you were Catholic as they were you went to that church or none at all. So when they were going there, they bought grave plots in the adjoining cemetery. There isn't a Catholic church there any longer. St. Mary's consists of about a dozen houses and a Baptist church and the cemetery.

Afterward we went on to the also tiny village of Stillwell to photograph and abandoned hotel, general store and church. Then to Loraine to see the house where my Dad's adopted mother lived when she died in 1977. Then on to our second farm over by Bowen where my Dad's sister now lives. We dropped off a load of firewood for her. On the way back to Rushville, we found another abandoned farm and took photos there. Score!

Public Service Announcement My lj friend cuddles had his account hacked by some Russian hacker who proceeded to demand money to release his lj. When Ben did not acquiesce, the hacker deleted both his main and alternate LJ's. Ben had not done a backup and LJ could not restore his journal so he's out 9 years worth of posts and comments. I was an LJ "early adopter" which was what they called those of us who were among the first several thousand to open LJ accounts back in the day. Ben was one of my original LJ friends. This just sucks. Sometime since last night I received an email that at first I thought was just normal SPAM from someone who is obviously Russian and claims to have seen my profile on the LJ of a Russian LJ User. Since I can't read Russian, I can't tell. And it may have nothing to do with Ben's situation but it seemed pretty strange. In response I have just backed up my LJ. I don't know if LJ has reported anything on this issue or if it is widespread.

This looks VERY intriguing, but I have to tell you that you didn't successfully close your italics tag.

OK, now I have. Yeah, I'm anxiously awaiting more info.

He'd deleted all the stuff before posting the demand for money. The guys name was r_l and his journal is still active.

So another dumb criminal then?

And LJ hasn't deleted his journal?

Interesting case you have there. Let us know what happens!

Re: the hacker...that sucks SO Much. Sorry for you, cuddles.

I think I better back up my journal now. :(
Oct. 12th, 2009 06:43 pm (UTC)
I now have mine backed up for every entry except this one.

Oct. 12th, 2009 07:23 pm (UTC)

Can I be of any help? At least read the stuff the guy could not read.

Yes, we are all suffering from bots these days; and yes, one should back up regularly. But how come lj team was unable to restore the journal I wonder... probably all the professionals are gone by now. Sad.

Apparently from the comments, LJ is saying there is no real proof that the LJ user was the one who deleted his journal so they can't take action. As for the person who contacted me, this is what they said, "Hello My Dear
My name is kate It gives me a great pleassure to write you after viewing your profile in this website(marinesku-ru.livejournal.com)today at which really interest me to have communication with you if you will have the desire with me so that we can get to know each other and see what happened in future.
i will be very happy if you can write me through my email ID for easiest communication.
my email is (kateloveth_azik84@yahoo.com)
i will be waiting to hear from you.
have a blessed day.
Yours in love kate

(kateloveth_azik84@yahoo.com) "

I can't read the entries in that journal to see if my profile was mentioned or not.

moving sucks. i don't envy you. take care of your back.

It's more my shoulders than anything. We are actually considering leaving some furniture behind because we are tired of moving it. My bigger problem is arthritis. I need to move to a warmer climate. I've got an inside source at the coroner's office so I may have an update later this week.

Thanks and he is starting over. I just have stalkers and not hackers.

Why would anyone pay just to keep up ancient blog entries that no one cares about anymore?
Do other people actually go back and reread their old entries? Is this an important human activity that I should emulate?
And doesn't it seem like an AWFUL lot of work to hack a mere LJ? On the off chance that the user will give a shit?
Russian have too much time on their hands these days.

You're having a lot of coyote interaction lately. Where's my pictures? I've never seen nor heard a real coyote in my life. I'll swap you gator pics for coyotes! LOL
Oct. 13th, 2009 02:20 pm (UTC)
I'll answer your first question with a question. Why do people keep diaries? So they can look back and see the progress in their lives perhaps? To settle arguments about when certain events happened. To find out what they were thinking on a given day? Recently my Dad and i were arguing about when we planted our fruit trees because this was he first year the apple tree bore fruit. He was complaining that it had been in the ground several years and it was about time. I said it had only been 3 years and I was surprised we had them so soon. It only took searching through 3 years of journal entries to find the answer and I was right. Also, when I meet new people and they want to get ot know me better, I point them to my journal where for years I wrote down all my pertinent and intimate thoughts. All my relationship drama, all my happy occasions are all down there. I'm sure Ben feels the same way.

It's important to a lot of people. If it's not important to you, that's your prerogative. I'd be extremely pissed if something I'd worked on so hard for 9 years suddenly disappeared. I'd feel the same way if all my photos were destroyed in a fire.

Knowing that people feel this way about their journals is why a hacker knows he can extort money from people who feel they might be in jeopardy.

I always have a lot of interaction with Coyote and Owl and Deer and Bear for that matter as they are my permanent Spirit Guides.

I'm not sure I've ever taken a photo of Coyote. He is very elusive. I do have a photo of a Wolf that came right up to my car some years ago in a wooded section near Peoria, IL.

I am definitely hearing a "Weird Illinois" story in that news about the accident.

Amazing fox and coy-dog sightings! Whoa!

And I can't wait to see the photos from St. Mary's and Loraine, and the abandoned places in the Stilwell and Bowen areas.

I'm so sorry to hear about Cuddles' loss. I'm weighing in on the side of "that's a big chunk of your life" as far as losing the nine years -- I read archives of the LJers I have as friends as a matter of principle, because they asked me to, and also because one of the best ways to know someone is to read what they write over time. My sincere condolences to Cuddles. I do think it's great that [info]ivan_ghandhi could shed some light on the hacker situation. They are ingenious and malicious.

I'm so sorry to hear about Cuddle's loss. My journal's beginning is special to me because it marks the beginning of our friendship. Yours and Anna's. I'd be pissed if something happened that.

Amazing pictures! love the moon. Someday, I'd like to explore a cemetery with you.
