My Nikon D70 has died. It happened during a band photo shoot marathon. 2 more bands to go. I may have to use my 5 year old point and shoot. FUCK.

Really not the time of year to be buying a new camera.

Maybe you can find a good post-Thanksgiving sale price at Best Buy or the like....

Possibly. I'm in kind of a tight spot as I shoot like every day. Oh well, I guess it never happens at a good time does it?

You are Wander, Destroyer of Cameras!

Kind of wish that was not the case right now.

Yep. I just finished paying off everything I ever owed to anyone last year. well I owe the bank of dad a little bit and I swore I wouldn't get sucked into any more credit cards. So I guess I'll bite the bullet and just spend it out of my next paycheck but man, that's a chunk of change. I may be getting a pretty good sized bonus in March that would pay for a new camera and then some but man I don't want to wait that long for a camera. Maybe lay away.

*shakes head*

I've heard of this happening. Which is why you're suppose to wear camera bodies festooned about your body like xmas tree lights when you're on a photo shoot.
Besides, it makes you look so damn important! LOL LOL LOL

A camera without lenses shouldn't be TOO crazy expensive. Have you checked ebay and craig's list? Or used at a camera shop?

I hope this didn't happen in the middle of an important shoot!
Isn't Black Friday tomorrow? I keep getting notices for sales... maybe BH has something?

BH and Adorama both have good Deals. Think I'm going with a D90 and I'll just do the best I can price wise.

Would you say this a reflection of the reliability - or lack thereof - of Nikon gear? Or were you just unlucky?

I'd say for the amount of wear I inflicted upon it and the extreme conditions I sometimes shot in, that I was lucky it lasted this long and is a testament to Nikon's durability. In total it probably shot about 89,000 images given that I was the second owner and my friend who had it first is not as aggressive a shooter as I am. So it was probably nearing the end of it's life cycle anyway. I've heard the life expectancy is between 75K and 100K shutter openings. I'm sending it off to Nikon and if they can repair it, I'll have a good backup.

That would be great if you had the use of two cameras at the same time! You would be able to join the ranks of those who have two different lenses available at all times and avoid the hassle with having to change lenses and miss shots.

When all is said and done I may have 3. I bought my landlord's D50 tonight and I'll order a D90 soon. If two is good 3 must be great!

Now that's just crazy talk! ;P

But wouldn't it be fun?

I don't have a DSL, I have a Sony DSC-H9. When it dies, I will buy a DSL...but, I will mourn the loss of a friend.

I'm sorry to hear of your Nikon.

Well I bought the D70's little brother, the D50 from my landlord. An almost new camera as it only has 1700 shutter openings on it. It will do until I get a D90. Any camera is as good as the next as long as it does what you need it to do.
