Why?

This is one of those things I just wonder about. You ever notice on commercials for body lotion they always show really thin shapely women using the product? Now these things make no claim that the product will help you look thin, just younger or smoother. So why not show larger or out of shape people. They have more skin after all and presumably would be using more of the product. Am I wrong?

I've always thought that it had something to do with some kind of subconscious reasoning that goes on in the mind of the consumer. No, the person doesn't rationally believe that using Product X will make her look slender, but deep down, that message is in her brain. She might not consciously acknowledge it, but it's there. Even if she doesn't think it will make her look more slender, she is inclined to believe that it will make her look and/or feel better in some respect, which is the main selling point, I suppose.

It puts me in mind of those Victoria's Secret commercials. Lots of buxom slender women dancing around in bras and panties. Makes you wonder if they're really advertising to women, doesn't it? But here, I'm not sure if the idea is to persuade women that they'll look like those models when wearing VS underwear, or if they're trying to persuade men to come shopping for their ladies at VS, under the impression that anything in that store is going to make their woman look like a model. If she doesn't already, that is.

Re:
I actually have a VS credit card believe it or not and I'd wager that at least a large minority of the sales they make are to men buying for women. I know I've bought enough over the years they ought to give me stock options.
