White Stuff

Bon Hiver Everyone!

A couple inches of the white stuff fell overnight. Shocked the shit out of me since it wan't in the forceast at all. I didn't even smell it coming and usually I do. By the way, Bon Hiver means Good Winter, something to say when the first snows fall.

We've been having little mine Christmas parties all week. This time of the year, all our vendors either send us huge packages of chocolates, popcorn, candies or meat and cheese or they come and take us out for lunch. Three out to lunches so far, a division Christmas party, a day after division Christmas party and in general, a hell of a lot of food. One of my illustrators also sent me two whole bottle of Knob Creek Kentucky Bourbon. This stuff is aged 9 years and is so, so smooth and sweet. He also sent me a silver flask and a Hickory Farms gift pack. I'm sure it cost him around $100. He says there is one more thing coming which I think is a gift certificate to Outback Steakhouse. It sounds like alot but I have paid him over $90,000 this year so I think he can afford it.

Another one gave me a bottle of Gentleman Jack last year but I've not seen anything but a card from him this year so It's probably being a hard year for him. Not that I care if I get anything from them but it is a really nice gesture.

We all got pulled into the conference room yesterday so we could be told we were not in immediate danger of losing our jobs. Notice I said immediate danger. I think they were leaving themselves and out in case economics get worse. This came on the heels of a cryptic memo from Corporate on Wednesday night announcing not layoffs but a corporate restructuring that would disolve close to 1,000 jobs. Now in a corporation that employs 16,000 people in the US, 1,000 jobs means an awful lot. I wasn't that worried because our business unit wasn't specified but as I say, the memo was a little cryptic. So yippie, I won't come back to no job after the holidays.

Hey, Whoopie, I got those chapters of my thesis Fed Exed to my Professor last night...finally. Now I'm in writing mode. I think I'll do some writing and a bunch of reading this weekend and take some of the materials on my trip to NC next week. Look out NC, here I come for 9 days.

We get paid today. It couldn't come soon enough since I put $3 of gas in my tank last night. I need to work on tanning some deer hides this weekend and getting presents ready for the folks back east.

Once again, Bon Hiver my friends!

Send some of that writer's block cancellation out this way. My characters are languishing and I think they're getting mad at me.

It was mostly a matter of finally getting pissed off enough at myself to sit down and do it. But when I see you, I'll touch you in some special way and maybe that will have some effect OK?

actually, cold and rainy today... I love the cold... best excuse in the world to narrow the gap between two warmblooded bodies.

Ah, this is true. I've always loved having a house with a fireplace for the same reason. Cold days are great excuses to cuddle by a fire. May your holidays be filled with much body warming!
