Creativity leads to injury

I was wanting to do some new icons for myself. So I headed out to my woods yesterday, camera in hand and a head full of ideas. Some involved some pretty macabre half naked death scenes which are exceedingly difficult when you are by yourself. I need to by myself a new remote shutter cable I guess because a 15 second timer just does not give you enough time to cover half your naked self with leaves and get into position before the shutter fires and you just end up looking goofy and naked and I already look goofy enough naked. So after a few attempts, I gave in favor of having Deb help me next time she's down to the farm with me. There was this one thing I wanted to do though. There is this old stump from a hickory tree I cut down several years ago. It's a good place to meditate and looking down from where it sits on top of this hill, you get a good view of my woods and the small stream running through it. I've wanted to do this photo for a long time of me standing on the stump and facing the woods with my staff in one hand and the other hand raised and outstretched like i'm casting a spell or something.

So I set the camera on the tripod and get it all focused and set the timer. Then I ran up, grabbed the staff and jumped atop the stump, quickly getting into position. As luck would have it, the shutter never fired. So I mumbled some explitives and went back to check out what I'd done wrong. I figured it out and clicked off a test frame and then set it up again. This time when I ran forward and grabbed the staff, I put my left foot up on the side of the stump and tried to hoist myself up. Wouldn't you just fucking know it. The whole front side of the stump was rotten underneath and gave way undeer my weight and I came crashing down on top of it.

This is how people get those injuries where you see them in the emergency room with a pool cue sticking through their upper thigh or something. Luckily I didn't get hurt enough to have to go to the emergency room. When the stump gave way, I fell forward since my momentum was moving that way anyhow. My left knee contact the solid part on the edge of the stump and pain shot through my entire leg. The rest of me sprawled atop the top of the stump knocking the wind out of me. My head flopped down and bashed into the back side of the stump. Holding onto the staff with my right hand forced my arm back behind me rather painfully. And then, I more or less flipped ass end over teakettle on over the stump and landing on my back on the other side before sliding part way down the hill. The only thing that saved me from going into the stream was a small but very thorny black locust tree which proceeded to rip lots of flesh from my hand and arm. Luckily i didn't break anything though i am limping today and my knee is pretty well scraped up.

I seem to recall that as my body was flipping up into the air, the camera shutter fired so to add insult to injury, I most likely have a photo of all this happening.

Should make for an interesting icon.

Peace,

Wander

AAAAUUUUUUUGGGGGH!
Holy COW. Are you okay?!

You're never allowed to get naked in the woods again without ER on speed dial. Apparently, it's just too stunning for nature to handle!

Re: AAAAUUUUUUUGGGGGH!
I wasn't naked when I was doing the stump shot. I was however naked when I was trying to bury myself it wet moldy leaves and layed down on a four inch locust thorn. Yes, I'm ok, luckily I regenerate my skin quickly.

So then get out here and take the photos for me.

OUCH!!! What the hell?! I'm not sure if I'm imagining that right but it's a really painful mental picture. You're going to have the coolest icons, though. Hehehe.

Re:
Hey, if it will entertain someone else that's all that matters right?

Re:
Actually it's funny already. Long as I don't break anything, I count myself lucky.

Part of me says "Ouch" and feels your pain. The other part is laughing uproariously.

Re:
I'm glad I can amuse you with my pain. Sounds like another Stick Man cartoon.

I'll never lack for inspiration with that kind of stuff going on in the universe. Stickman was born out of painful humor.

Sounds like me. I learn from others' mistakes, then go out and make all new ones of my own. Nothing like being a trailblazer.

Yeah, I never did beleive people when they told me I'd shocked if I peed on an electric fence. Just had to try it for myself.

Geeez!! I'm glad you didn't seriously hurt yourself.
But mind you, I'm sure you'll be laughing about this one a lot if you haven't already.

Re:
Well it seems everyone else is laughing about it so I might as well too. I was just glad there was no one there but my dog to see me do it in the first place. Photographic evidence tomorrow.

Re:
You should see me walking through the woods. It's one reason I usually go alone. I'm always looking up at the birds when I should be paying attention to where my feet are going.

I'm glad you're okay, and weren't seriously hurt. Need some healing/positive energy your way?

also, it's just not fair. I want to be able to walk around in the fields/woods taking pictures of myself half-naked.

Re:
You have an open invitation to come out here. A bunch of naked nymphs walking around my woods would be a welcome change from the herd of catle of years past. I'm OK on the injury. I'm walking fine today. Just bruises and scrapes. Luckily I've been clumsy for a long time and my body has learned to regenerate quickly.

Thanks though!
